Women Who Stay is a therapy-led support group designed to create space for honest conversation, connection, and compassion—without pressure to have it all figured out.

This group is for women who feel out of place, uncertain, or conflicted, yet still want community and understanding as they move forward.

Emotions cannot be hidden, suppressed, or thrown out permanently. It’s not an option to not deal with them! When a person doesn’t know how to process their emotions in healthy ways, they deal with them (sometimes unconsciously) in ways that are detrimental to their long-term health. This can look like outbursts of rage or anger.

It can look like a depression that numbs all emotions out, or hyper-vigilance that leads to a pattern of anxiety. It can look like addictions to substances or habitual behavior that is outside our values.

Our bodies can end up treating emotional pain like physical danger. These negative feelings of hurt, loss, grief, fear etc. can build up and lead our bodies to live in perpetual fight or flight.

Meet Alex Collopy PhD, MSW Intern from our Sandy location.

"I help clients understand and experience themselves and their worlds in new ways."

Alex sees clients starting at age 3 and her areas of interest are child therapy, anxiety, depression, and college and graduate students.

Fun facts: Former college instructor at Penn State, Weber State, and University of Utah, and former preschool teacher. I love reading, camping, and studying Judaism. My favorite tattoo I have is a “squiggle” drawn by a child from the case files of therapist Donald Winnicott.
