Our caregivers are here every day to care not only for our patients but also help their families, providing empathy in every interaction. Allison Bergdoll, a nurse who works with our Pediatrics, Express Admit, Telesitter and Professional Resource Teams is an excellent example of empathetic care. In fact, she was honored by our Board of Directors for going out of her way to comfort a child of a patient who unexpectedly experienced a medical emergency during an appointment.
“Allison exhibits this exceptional care in everything she does. We are blessed to have her,” said her manager, Melanie Stout. Thank you, Allison, for stepping forward to make sure not only our patients, but their loved ones, are cared for with empathy.

If you eat bread, you need to know this from Instagram's !

"The science: freezing and reheating bread changes the structure of the starch, forming more resistant starch—a type your body doesn’t fully break down. This means slower digestion, a smaller insulin response, and steadier energy.

Here’s why ⬇️
🚀 Fresh bread→ quick spike
🔥 Toasted → gentler rise
❄️ Frozen + thawed → more resistant starch = steadier response
❄️ 🔥 Frozen + toasted → best combo = lowest insulin response."

Meghan Ritz is a Physician Assistant and Assistant Medical Director of San Juan Regional Medical Center's Metabolic and Bariatric Institute.

Diabetes is a chronic condition where blood sugar (glucose) levels are too high, either because the body doesn't produce enough insulin, or because the cells don't respond to insulin correctly, preventing sugar from entering cells for energy. It's crucial to know the facts because undiagnosed or untreated diabetes can lead to serious health complications. Learn about diagnosing diabetes by visiting: https://tinyurl.com/4jcu55pp

San Juan Regional Medical Center is proud to announce the latest winners of the prestigious DAISY® Award, an international recognition for nurses to thank them for the care and compassion they provide.

Jaecee Acosta is a nurse on our Medical Unit who was nominated by two different people for being “nothing short of amazing.” In one case, Jaecee cared for a patient with Huntington’s disease, which affects a person's movements, thinking ability and mental health. The patient’s daughter was so impressed with the kindness and respect Jaecee showed, not only to the patient, but to the family.

Wendy Joe is a nurse on our Nephrology Unit and a three-time DAISY® recipient. She was nominated by a patient’s family member after the patient had a lengthy and unexpected hospital stay. Wendy was the patient’s night nurse, always walking in happily with great energy and a sense of humor to make the patient laugh and smile, which then led to hugs after every shift.

We love recognizing our nurses for the many ways they live our mission – better is our mission, improving lives through personalized health and care. Help us by submitting a nomination for an exceptional nurse: https://tinyurl.com/mpwtkbv8

A Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) test measures the level of PSA protein in a man's blood. This protein is produced by both normal and cancerous prostate tissue. The American Urological Association recommends PSA screening primarily for men between ages 55 and 69, emphasizing that the decision should be made collaboratively between patient and physician after discussing potential benefits and risks. Men age 50 and older may be candidates for screening, while those with a family history of prostate cancer or other risk factors might consider earlier screening starting at age 40 or 45.
