If you inhabit a human body, you're not immune to blockages and imbalance.

I have found that working with the subtle energetics of imbalances and blockages through the process of Reiki can sometimes be just the shift needed to increase momentum and support on clearing and healing the blockages.

Reiki assists us in activating our parasympathetic nervous system — the rest and digest and recover mode. Regularly accessing this state allows the body systems to regenerate, the mind and the brain waves to slow, and for resistance to lessen.

It will never be a replacement for medical care or clinical mental health care, but it can enhance any medical treatment or clinical mental health care.

Reiki is gentle.
Reiki is a conscious energy and it knows right where to flow.
Reiki can do no harm and there are virtually zero side effects.
And ANYONE can learn Reiki.

Don't ever speak about politics.

This was the advice of the head cosmetology instructor at the beauty school I attended back in 2001. The notion that speaking about politics and religion makes other people feel uncomfortable was one that I followed for the majority of my career. I didn't want to "offend" anyone happened to have opposing beliefs from mine. polished, polite and palatable were the main objectives if you were trying to attract new clients.

But things are different now. And from what I've seen with working behind the chair with my hands in women's hair, and now as a social worker in the space of domestic violence advocacy and trauma recovery... politics matters because it touches every single aspect of our lives, our psychology, our ability to feel safe, and our ability to relate to one another. Today in this very moment, in this country, politics impacts every single citizen. ESPECIALLY if you are a woman, a person of color, any part of the LGBTQ+ community, or any other minority.

Our nervous systems are all fried right now, and I know many of us are tired. We all have fear and confusion about what's played out and what's up ahead. My goal is to continue to create conversations with those around me and in my community, even when our opinions and perspectives vary.

I've been meditating on the Strength tarot card and it's meaning for me. courage, bravery, and confidence are all surface points. but moving deeper, GRACE, having dominion over my mind and emotions in chaos, love and compassion for those around me, patience, resilience while also fearlessly and lovingly speaking my mind. I hold the energy and vision of this for all of those around me as well.

Lastly, I have a small handful of offerings designed to create a safe space: Reiki to help balance, calm and sooth your nervous system, a brand new 10-week course for survivors of domestic violence, and, of course, trauma-informed and inclusive hair dressing services. I'll drop the link in the comments for you to find out more of all of my offerings. 👇🏻👇🏻

Hey all! I wanted to reach out and connect about a project I am working on and hopefully soon launching as a non-profit organization that provides training for Utah Salons, Beauty Schools, and Beauty Professionals on Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention.

1 in 3 Utah women and 1 in 4 Utah men will experience some form of Domestic Violence. Beauty Professionals have a unique and essential responsibility and opportunity to ensure they're equipped and informed to recognize and respond to the signs and symptoms of abuse that show up in subtle ways. Most clients will disclose this abuse to their beauty professionals even before they will choose to seek help.

My mission is to empower the Beauty Industry in Utah with this information as a way to prevent domestic violence, and also empower those with information about resources available so that they can reach the right people.

I am currently offering this training free as we get this program off the ground, and am looking for salons or beauty schools that would like to have me as a guest speaker for this unique educational opportunity. I have already been connected to Ogden Weber Tech College and have a class scheduled there for April.

A little about me personally and my background, I have been a salon owner/stylist in Utah for the last 21 years, am a Reiki/Wellness professional, a Social Work Undergrad at SLCC, and am also a Domestic Violence Survivor. It took me being into my career 10 years, and having to go through the experience myself to begin to recognize the symptoms in my own clientele.
Here is my website so you can view a little bit more about Empowered Beauty Pro, as well as the specific training that I offer. https://www.empoweredbeautypro.org

And please reach out if you have any connections or know anyone who would like to take advantage of the free training! And if you don't know anyone but would like to support, feel free to follow my socials on Instagram and here on FB Empowered Beauty Pro

It took me going through domestic violence and being 10 years into my salon career before I started noticing more of my clients going through the same.

It wasn’t bruises or broken bones that gave it away. To this day I’ve not seen any bruises!

It was their stories and self-disclosures that resonated so much with my own experiences.

Sometimes the statements were really obvious

“He drinks too much and sometimes the kids and I have to go check into a hotel room just to get some rest.”

“I came home and he had smashed all of the dishes because he was so mad that I had been gone too long.”

“He doesn’t really let me go see my family anymore”

Sometimes the statements were more subtle, with stories of gaslighting, manipulation, micro-aggressions, and intimidation.

Over the years of my career, I’ve helped clients make safety plans and give referrals to attorneys and other resources, and I’ve even roped my husband into to help a younger client physically flee and move out of an abusive boyfriend’s house.

The reason I share this is because people who face domestic violence are all around us. You’re next to them at the grocery store. They’re your co-workers, bosses, teachers, students, friends, and acquaintances.

We can chalk Domestic Violence up to being created by a lot of things in society and even by aspects of our own Utah culture. But we can’t get to the process of dissecting the issue to be able to solve it unless we work on being informed and educated about what is really going on.

With the statistics slides that I’ve shared on this post, is there one that surprised you or stood out more?

Ali is the name.

I wear many hats in life and am a true Aquarius Sun/Leo Moon/Taurus Rising through and through. I was born and raised in Utah, and even though I was raised amongst the religious backdrop of daily Utah life, I would now classify myself as a Secular Spiritualist/Humanist where I have one foot in the world of healthy, albeit stubborn skepticism and another foot in the world of absolute, complete wonder and awe of this vast existence.

I am a veteran 21-year hairdresser/salon owner, and I also have a small Reiki/Wellness practice partnered with a counseling center in Davis County. Whether my hands are in the hair or channeling Reiki into bodies, I’ve seen firsthand how human touch and sacred spaces of vulnerability and healing can create massive impact and transformation.

I’m also a student at Salt Lake Community College studying Social Work. I NEVER thought I would go to college. Most of my life as a beauty professional has been spent hell-bent on proving that you don’t have to have a degree to make money and have a meaningful business. However, my own experiences of traversing through chaos and transformation in my own life have given me skills that you cannot apply to the world where they are needed without playing the game and engaging with the system of academia, degrees, and certifications. And 2 years into this path — I never thought I would say this — this is the truest place for me to be right now.

I am a domestic violence survivor. 💜

Yes. The skills and experience I referred to above? This is the one. I’ll share more about my journey of lifting myself out of chaos, protective orders, and family court system in the coming days.

I am a domestic violence advocate.

👊 Join me in the fight against Domestic Violence, and follow along to check out the projects I’m working on as I advocate for change in this paradigm. We’ll sprinkle in some humor, shake off the seriousness, and make the world a safer (and more informed place) one moment at a time!

The ability to change things about ourselves becomes more accessible when we can finally accept them. Embracing our imperfections, letting go of judgment, and cultivating self-love are essential steps towards personal growth. By embracing change and accepting ourselves as we are, we embark on a transformative journey of self-discovery and empowerment. Let us celebrate the power of self-acceptance and the profound impact it can have on our lives.

Being able to acknowledge truths about ourselves comes from a place of being grounded and present with an open heart. From that space there is nothing to force, nothing to hide from, and you are secure enough to see things clearly.

Curious how to take the next step in your healing path?

I offer 1:1 Reiki and Holistic Healing Services that support and compliment any process of recovery, clinical therapy, and process of change you may be undergoing.

Short term results include shifting your bodies state into the natural healing state of the parasympathetic nervous system which dramatically reduces stress, and symptoms of anxiety and nervousness.

Long term results include being able to stay with yourself and maintain balance when stress occurs.

Are you curious to understand the science of reiki and the results that have been documented by the scientific community? Click the link in my bio to check out the Health article published just last month where they explore the data.

💪 Join me in supporting survivors of sexual assault in Northern Utah 💪

One role I am stepping into this year is Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence advocate as I work through my social work undergrad.  I am currently at Safe Harbor Crisis Center volunteering on the Crisis Response Team where we are dispatched along with a forensic nurse to support sexual assault survivors gain access to emergent medical care, and if desired, report their assault to law enforcement.

Facing sexual assault is traumatic, but the road to justice and healing can be equally daunting.

What survivors experience while undergoing these forensic exams in my mind is almost just as traumatizing as the actual assault. It takes incredible vulnerability, strength and courage to come forward to report or even to seek medical help. Sometimes the exams are many hours long, resulting in swabs, photographs and DNA samples of their bodies, and often times their clothing is taken away for evidence as well.

I’ve decided to start the process of creating a comfort “go bag” for as many survivors as possible that can be given to them by their advocate and it will include many items for their comfort and care as they undergo the process of a forensic exam. I’m now accepting donations to create these SA Survivor Support Kits. I’ve listed the details and the items I need on the slides below, but will also accept cash donations via Venmo if you’re not able to help out with physical items. My target is 100 of these bags by the end of April.

Your donation can provide vital support, comfort and dignity to these individuals through one of the worst experiences one could ever endure.

Please reach out to me if you’d like to donate, and please share this post to spread the word.

WELCOME 2024 👁✨🖤

my wish for you this year…

is not for the weight loss
is not for the dollars or the growing bank account
is not for the engagement ring
is not for the job promotion
is not for the clients gained or the business you’ll build
is not for what you’ll conquer or even what you’ll over come

my wish for you is the Truth, the healing, and for you to have everything you need in the moment you need it.

and may the life you may create — or undo — is well resourced with experiences that ripple forth outcomes that are in the deepest resonance of the truth of your divinity, power, and love.

May you learn to see yourself through the eyes of all source of creation. May you learn to love all the spots you perceive as unloveable. May you REAL-ize that within the journey you set forth on - your safe passage has already been guaranteed.

You are loved and you are held. And you always have been all along.

Happy New 2024 friends and loved ones 🖤
