We stand on the shoulders of giants.

Today, the Saint Francis Hospital community shares with deep sadness the passing of Dr. Bimalin Lahiri (“The Chief”). He was a physician of rare excellence, a pioneer in pulmonary and critical care medicine, a steady leader, and a mentor who shaped generations of clinicians.

Born in India, Dr. Lahiri earned his medical degree from the University of Calcutta and came to Connecticut in 1964 for postdoctoral training, ultimately building his career at Saint Francis Hospital & Medical Center and leading Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine for decades. He was recognized with numerous honors, including Commitment to Teaching Awards, Best Doctors in America, the CT Thoracic Society Distinguished Service Award, and the Gold Humanism Honor Society. His legacy continues through the Bimalin Lahiri Lectureship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, established to honor his lasting impact on education and patient care.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and all who learned from him.

Our Community Health Alliance Track (CHAT) residents rolled up their sleeves and volunteered at the UConn Health Equity event—joining medical and dental students as they connected with community leaders. It was an inspiring day of learning, listening, and sharing.

Big shoutout to our residents for going above and beyond to support our community and the future of healthcare!
