🔬 Medical Lab Professionals Week 🔬

This week, we’re recognizing the expertise and dedication of our lab teams who help turn science into possibility. At the Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (CARS), the work happening behind the scenes plays a meaningful role in every patient’s path forward.

Here are a few of the ways lab science supports your journey:

🧬 Embryo Culturing – After retrieval, embryos are carefully developed and monitored to help guide the next steps in your care
🔬 Pre-implantation Genetic Testing (PGT) – Providing valuable insight into embryo health before transfer
💉 S***m Analysis & Preparation – Evaluating and preparing s***m to support the best possible chance of fertilization

Each step is handled with precision, intention, and a deep understanding of how much this journey means to you.

At CARS, our lab professionals are an essential part of your care team, working alongside your physician to provide thoughtful, individualized treatment for each and every family who needs it.

🤔 You've heard of IUI, but do you know what it really is? Dr. Reeva Makhijani is here to explain the process.

IUI, or intrauterine insemination, is a simple and effective fertility treatment that helps bring s***m closer to the egg at the right time. By placing prepared s***m directly into the uterus during ovulation, IUI can increase the chances of fertilization while keeping the process minimally invasive.

It’s often one of the first steps in fertility care for individuals and couples looking for support on their path to parenthood.

Curious if IUI could be the right next step for you? Let’s start the conversation.

Medication Safety Week is a reminder of how important it is to safely manage, store, and understand your fertility medications. Small details, like timing and dosage, can make a meaningful difference in your experience and outcomes.

At the Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (CARS), we’re here to help you feel informed and supported every step of the way.

Here are a few helpful reminders:
🔑 Keep an Updated List: Track all prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and supplements
🧴 Understand Labels: Follow instructions closely and be aware of potential side effects
đź”’ Secure Storage: Store medications in a cool, dry place and out of reach of children
🚮 Safe Disposal: Dispose of unused or expired medications properly—avoid saving them “just in case” or for sharing
💬 Ask Questions: Pharmacists and your care team are here to help clarify anything you’re unsure about

Medication safety is a shared effort, and you don’t have to navigate it alone. If anything feels unclear, your CARS care team is always here to provide guidance and support.

đź’™ April is Testicular Cancer Awareness Month. đź’™

April is a time to bring attention to testicular cancer and the importance of early detection. While it affects many, it is also one of the most treatable cancers when caught early. At the Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (CARS), we believe informed, proactive care is an important part of protecting both your health and your future fertility.

Here's what to keep in mind:
👉 Self-Exam Timing: It’s best to perform self-exams during or after a warm shower.
👉 What to Look For: Pay attention to any painless lumps, swelling, or changes in size or firmness.
👉 When to See a Doctor: If any changes are noticed, it’s essential to seek medical advice immediately. Early intervention is key.

In addition, it’s important to be mindful of everyday habits that can affect testicular health. Small things like prolonged heat exposure, tight clothing, or sitting for extended periods can impact s***m production and overall fertility. Simple adjustments to your daily routine, such as taking breaks from laptop use on your lap, wearing looser clothing, and avoiding heat near the pelvic area, can make a big difference in protecting your reproductive health.

Medication Safety Week is a reminder to stay informed and intentional with how your fertility medications are used, stored, and managed—especially during fertility treatment.

Fertility medications can be complex, and at the Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (CARS), we’re here to simplify them for you. Our team provides support in understanding timing, dosages, and how each medication fits into your unique plan so you can have the highest chances of achieving your goals with your fertility care. Let's remember to use your own medications properly, without sharing with others, and with proper understanding of them so you can have the highest chances of building the family you dream of.

We love a good laugh as much as anyone, but today is a tricky one in the fertility world.

While lighthearted jokes—like the famous "Lucky Socks Protocol"—are always welcome, there’s one April Fools’ trend we strongly stand against: fake pregnancy announcements.

Even a split-second of false hope can be devastating.

For someone scrolling through their feed, seeing those posts doesn't feel like a harmless prank.

It can instantly trigger feelings of grief, isolation, and longing.

At UConn Fertility, our whole-body approach means we care just as much about your emotional well-being as your physical health.

If today is hard for you, please know we see you and we are holding space for you. đź’™
