ARTIST SPOTLIGHT!!
Melanie is originally from the St. Francois County area, graduating high school from Central and living in Park Hills, Bonne Terre, and Farmington most of her life. She is a state licensed body piercer and permanent makeup tattooist (PMU.) She obtained her piercing license in 2022 after apprenticing in a Farmington-local tattoo shop and in 2023 she graduated from the educational program "Indelible Ink" in Poplar Bluff, learning powder-shaded brows, lip blushing, and permanent eyeliner from renowned PMU artist Jill Null of "Brows by Jill" for her permanent makeup background. Since Rising Tide Tattoo Company is a small, family-owned and operated local business, Melanie is also the behind-the-scenes driving force that keeps RT afloat! She manages the day-to-day operating costs and supplies as well as handling a lot of the social media posts and messages.
Aside from her professional background in piercing and PMU, Melanie has 20+ years of experience as a healthcare worker, having certifications in Radiology and Ultrasound. She graduated from Southern Illinois University with her Bachelor’s in Radiologic Sciences in 2005. She has worked for BJC full time at Parkland Health Center Farmington for 21 years, the OB/Gyn office at the Medical Arts Clinic, and has recently gone PRN for the hospital since starting her newest ultrasound career working for Biomedical Imaging as a travel ultrasound technologist. She believes that her extensive past experience as a licensed healthcare worker makes working in a clean and safe environment second-nature for her.
Melanie has a warm, safe, and inviting approach as a piercer- and she would say that she especially loves taking care of the piercing needs for your kids! She loves taking care of the littles and goes above and beyond to make them feel important and that the experience is a truly special event. That being said, her history as a healthcare worker allows her to be comfortable with most any type of body piercing from the daith (commonly believed to help remedy migraines) to more discreet piercings (on female clients only,) to maybe simply adding another lobe, nose, or oral piercing.
When it comes to her approach to PMU, she aims to do permanent makeup in a way that is as natural as possible. That is to say, her goal is to restore the look of natural pigmentation to the lips, eyebrows, and eyelids. The idea should be that you can have your lips colored, your brows filled, and your eyeliner on and it wouldn't look like you've "had work done!" Another benefit to these procedures is that they save you TIME getting ready! You wake up, your lips, eyeliner, and brows are already set to go for the day without looking overly made up!
