As Hispanic Heritage Month comes to an end, we recognize Dr. Nora Volkow.
Dr. Nora Volkow, a Mexican American psychiatrist and neuroscientist, is the director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). She pioneered the use of brain imaging to show that addiction is a disease of the brain, not a moral failing. Her groundbreaking research continues to transform how society understands and treats addiction.
Although Hispanic Heritage Month only lasts one month, we remember the contributions of these, and many other, individuals to the mental health and to our nation, even beyond the end of the month.

World Mental Health Day reminds us that caring for our mental well-being is just as important as caring for our physical health.
For parents and children alike, strong mental health builds resilience, strengthens relationships, and supports growth. Taking time to rest, connect, and talk about feelings helps create a safe space where everyone can thrive.
Let’s keep the conversation open, break the stigma, and remind each other that support is always within reach.

At the Spark Center, our primary goal is to increase functional skills and decrease behaviors that negatively impact daily living. We believe that the best outcomes are achieved by tailoring interventions to the individual based on their specific needs. We believe in working with families to share and teach these principles in order to help enhance the lives of the children and their families.
At the Spark Center, we believe we have a responsibility to uphold best practice which means only using interventions that are validated in current research.
