Summer should be full of splashes, not earaches! If your child complains of ear pain after swimming, it might be swimmer’s ear—an infection in the outer ear canal caused by water getting trapped and bacteria growing inside.

Symptoms may include:
👂 Itching or redness
😖 Pain when touching the ear
💧 Drainage from the ear
👂 Muffled hearing

If your child has symptoms of swimmer's ear, call our office to schedule an appointment! Swimmer's ear is treatable with prescription ear drops. For prevention tips & more about swimmer's ear, read our full blog by Morgan Leaventon, FNP-C, at our Summit location. Link in bio.

Measles spreads faster than any other infectious disease, which is why it's often the first to reappear when vaccination rates drop. It's highly contagious because it can spread from person to person, through the air with a cough or sneeze — and a person can spread it before they know they are sick.

With measles cases on the rise in Utah, it's important to make sure your child is vaccinated and to know the signs. Symptoms start 7-14 days (up to 3 weeks) after exposure. Kids usually develop cold symptoms that get worse in the first 3 days before developing a rash. Here's what to watch for:

🤒 High fever, 104+
😴 Fatigue or fussiness
😮💨 Cough, runny nose, red or watery eyes
😷 White spots inside the cheeks (Koplik spots)
🔴 A red, blotchy rash that starts 3-5 days later on the face and spreads to the body

If your child has symptoms or has been exposed, contact your pediatrician right away. Vaccination is the best way to prevent and protect your child & family!

Employee of the Month: Emily Daines, DNP!
Please join us in celebrating Emily, our July employee of the month! From her warm heart to her sharp clinical skills, Emily brings compassion, dedication, and a whole lot of joy to our team every single day. When she’s not caring for our littlest patients, she’s likely hiking, biking, gardening, or dreaming up her next interior design project!
A few fun facts about Emily:
• What makes her laugh the most? Babies giggling & dad jokes (the ultimate combo!)
• Favorite food? Tom Kha Thai soup
• Childhood dream? Becoming a nurse (nailed it)
When asked her favorite part of Wasatch Pediatrics, she said: "The kids and my coworkers." 💙
Thanks for being you, Emily!

Fireworks are fun—but safety comes first! Here are some tips:

💥 Never let kids handle fireworks. Even sparklers burn at over 1000 degrees Fahrenheit - they may seem harmless, but can cause 3rd degree burns.

👀 Watch from a distance & set up a safe viewing zone away from where fireworks are being lit.

💧 Have water nearby just in case.

🇺🇸 Wave glow sticks, flags, or streamers instead of sparklers.

🎆 View a professional fireworks show from a safe distance or a drone show.

👂 Protect those ears. Loud booms can be scary and even harmful - use noise-reducing earmuffs for young ears.

Celebrate safely! ❤️🤍💙
