I ran into a friend recently that I haven't seen in close to a year. While we were catching up, I could tell that she didn't want to seem obtuse, nor rude, when she asked about Life Coaching. . ."And what is that exactly?" I snickered a bit, because I remember my initial thoughts when I first heard the term. . .ridiculous and "poser" come to mind.
Fast forward a year or more and, for whatever reason, it struck me differently. I began digging for a better explanation of "Life Coaching".
What I discovered is that a Life Coach is something between a best friend and a therapist. A therapist will help a person unpack their trauma and heal from it. A best friend will listen to everything you want to talk about and support you in grief, happiness, success, failure and everything in between, but to remain friends, they may not always say the hard truths, nor can they remain neutral.
A Life Coach is basically a thinking partner. They will help identify obstacles in your life and aide in finding solutions that are already within you. They can listen from a neutral position and offer fresh perspectives that identify patterns of behavior and potentially harmful habits that keep a person stuck. Best of all, a Life Coach will help you design your own changes in the life you want to achieve.
I hope this helps clear up any muddy water around Life Coaching. Be well 😊
