Last month the Lilac Speech family grew--by two feet! 👣 💙

I'm taking an extended maternity leave to focus on my little family of four (!!) as we navigate postpartum life with a newborn and a Kindergartener. A fun fact: my baby was born the day after my big kid's fifth birthday (there was a very high probability of them even sharing a birthday!) Whether you're dealing with after school restraint collapse or long sleepless nights, just know that I'm going through it right there with you!

I plan to be back at the office just after the holidays. Send me a DM if you'd like me to reach out when I'm accepting patients again (no referrals needed!) I look forward to seeing you and your babies soon! 💜

The 490/Kreag Road bridge project is here and causing major traffic challenges on the east side. Zipper merging debates aside, the Bushnell's Basin exit for eastbound travelers is closed, and you cannot get back on to go westbound in the Basin either.

Luckily, there's an alternate route that won't add much to your travel time. I do recommend leaving early for your appointment as traffic in the Basin is already increasing!

Here's hoping the next 2 years of this project pass quickly! 💜

Had a great time speaking at the Craniofacial team conference this morning about one of my favorite topics: supporting breastfeeding for medically complex populations!

(OK, you got me. It's really my favorite topic 🥰)

While I love owning a private practice, I also love working in pediatric acute care. So grateful to have chosen a career path that allows me to do both. It is an honor to support complex babies and their families prenatally, after birth, and beyond. And it was so exciting and inspiring to share my knowledge of breastfeeding with the brilliant minds in the Craniofacial Center of Western NY and watch them brainstorm how they can help make breastfeeding easier for Western NY cleft families 💜

The EI crisis as shared by a colleague, who explains it more succinctly than I can. Please give it a listen! 💜

New York’s Early Intervention program is failing the children it’s meant to help. Thousands of kids are being denied access to life-changing services due to a broken system called the EI-Hub, created by the state and Public Consulting Group (PCG). This system is supposed to protect and support families, but instead, it’s a complete disaster.

Providers across the state have been fighting for weeks to fix this, uncovering serious issues like violations of privacy laws and mismanagement of sensitive health information for both kids and providers. Despite these alarming problems, the state and PCG refuse to acknowledge the damage they’ve caused. They blame providers, even though we’ve done everything possible to adapt to their broken system.

Early Intervention is federally required to help kids reach critical milestones—but this failure is putting their futures at risk. If it can happen here, it can happen anywhere. Families and children are suffering, and we can’t let this continue.

Speech screenings provide a quick overview of a child’s speech and language development. A screening can also provide you with knowledge of the specific skills your child has mastered, and which ones they may need more help to learn.
