Winter Weather & Senior Skin Care
As the temperature drops, so does the moisture in the air — and that can take a toll on our seniors’ skin. Aging skin is naturally thinner and more sensitive, making it more prone to dryness, itching, and irritation during the colder months.
Here are a few simple ways to help protect and nourish senior skin this winter:
Hydrate inside and out – Encourage plenty of water and use gentle, fragrance-free moisturizers daily.
Avoid very hot showers – Warm (not hot) water helps prevent further dryness.
Use soft, breathable fabrics – Cotton and fleece are kind to delicate skin.
Maintain indoor humidity – A humidifier can help keep the air (and skin) from drying out.
At Athena Care at Home, we know that comfort and wellness start with the little things. Our caregivers help ensure your loved one’s daily care includes attention to skin health, hydration, and overall comfort throughout the season.
Stay warm, stay hydrated, and take care this winter!
