Q: How do I know if my sunglasses offer true UV protection?

A: Check for labels that say “100% UV protection” or “UV400.” These block both UVA and UVB rays. Lens color or darkness doesn’t indicate protection, so don’t be fooled by darker shades. You can also have your sunglasses tested at optical shops using a UV meter.

Q: Do cyclists need eye protection?

A: Yes! Dust, wind, and UV rays can irritate your eyes while cycling. Wear wraparound sunglasses with UV protection to shield your eyes from debris and harmful rays.

Q: Can swimming pools cause eye infections?

A: Yes. Chlorine and other chemicals used to disinfect pools can disrupt your eye’s protective tear film, increasing your risk of irritation and infection. Avoid swimming with contact lenses, wear swim goggles, and rinse your eyes with clean water or artificial tears after swimming.

Q: Why does sweat sting my eyes and how can I avoid it?

A: Sweat contains salt and other minerals that can irritate your eyes and blur your vision. To prevent this, wear a headband, cap, or sports sunglasses that help wick sweat away. If sweat gets in your eyes, rinse gently with clean water or lubricating drops.
