It all started in 1925, when a group of citizens set out to obtain a hospital that would serve the rich and the poor as well as measure up to "big city" standards of medicine. Southside Community Hospital was originally a foundation experiment to determine if proper health care could be provided in a rural setting. In July 1926, the Farmville Manufacturing Company was awarded the construction cont

ract and by November 1927 Southside Community Hospital had opened its doors to patients. The original 40-bed hospital cost $180,000 to build and equip. That expenditure, minimal by today's standards, has proven to be a wise investment. SCH has been the healthcare center of Southside Virginia since opening its doors November 9, 1927. Since then, it has operated on a non-profit basis with the goal of helping to heal the ill and injured. The hospital now serves the residents of Amelia, Appomattox, Buckingham, Charlotte, Cumberland, Lunenburg, Nottoway, and Prince Edward Counties. Our Vision

Centra and local dermatologists are offering FREE skin cancer screenings to the community on Wednesday, July 30th, from 4:30–6:00 PM at Southside Hematology Oncology Clinic, 800 Oak Street, Farmville.

🩺 Screenings will be conducted in private rooms by trained professionals and are open to anyone who:
✔️ Does not currently have a dermatologist
✔️ Has not had a skin screening in the past year

Centra is excited to introduce our new class of 2028 medical residents who will serve as resident providers at Centra Lynchburg Family Medicine and train in various roles across our hospital departments during their residency!

This class includes 6 graduates from Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine, our first legacy student whose father graduated from this program in 2002, and 7 of the residents currently live in Lynchburg! Please help us give our new medical residents a warm welcome!
