The official UPMC Horizon Family Medicine Residency Page. This page is run by residents.

The mission of the program is to train residents in a small-town and rural environment to become exceptional Family Physicians and to meet the needs of the communities of Mercer and Lawrence Counties while customizing the residency experience for each resident to meet their respective career goals. We provide quality, patient-centered care across all ages and in any clinical setting. Our program features direct, one-on-one interaction with specialists as well as a strong team of experienced, passionate family medicine faculty. Our graduates serve rural to urban communities in Western Pennsylvania and throughout the United States in fields ranging from traditional primary care, all outpatient, hospitalist, ER, and urgent care. Patient care and resident education are equal partners in the mission of the residency.

A few of our residents and attendings made it to the Penguins game last week with our general surgery colleagues. We had a great time cheering on the Pens and eating some great food in the suite!!

Earlier today some of our attendings and 3rd year residents attended the annual UPMC family medicine refresher course! Both Dr. Liszewski and Dr. Meier presented a lecture/workshop for point of care ultrasound of both the lung and knee!🫁🦵

Our residency program collected donations for our local food drive and of course we make it a fun competition between our “houses”!🍴 Dr. Johns tallied up the final amount and we collected a total of 349.6 pounds of food and the winning house was the Honey Badgers!🎉 Great work team!!!

Happy Halloween!!🎃 This past Wednesday we had our post-ITE wellness event at Dr. John’s house! We had a great time competing with pumpkin carving, playing games, and sharing a lot of laughs! There’s never a dull moment with us!👻

We know that Dr. Davidek, Dr. Friedl, Dr. Gaekwad, and Dr. Sinno are all going to thrive as attending physician and impact the lives of so many future patients. We will miss you, but we are incredibly excited to see what lies ahead for each of you! 🥰🩺

The bad weather couldn’t stop us from “showering” our wonderful expecting residents. Both Sara and Ike are getting prepared to add a bundle of joy to their families!! To top it all off, the one and only stopped by to give us a lecture and share some incredible news of his own!!!

Last week we had our spring wellness event “Brewskis at Liszewski’s”! This year we decided to brew a Belgian wheat beer or witbier. This was a fantastic opportunity to spend time with friends, enjoy the sun, and learn about craft brewing! 🍻
