START HEALTHY--------------STAY HEALTHY
SUMMER COLDS AND DAIRY
Passed down through generations is the claim that you should avoid consuming dairy products (milk) when you have a cold. An old wives' tale, or maybe there may be some truth to it? However, science is still out, but most research says no.
TREATING MUCUS
Staying hydrated is the best thing you can do to relieve congestion and excessive mucus. Drinking water, running a humidifier and using a saline nasal spray can help break up mucus and allow it to drain from your sinuses or be expelled through coughing. But if an individual has a milk allergy, excessive mucus is a common symptom. The other drawback of drinking dairy with a cold is it can exacerbate phlegm because dairy products coat the mucus, making it feel thicker.
If symptoms continue longer than usual period of time, seeing your physician would help determine what is causing the symptoms and if it could be something that may need further investigation.
