A few weeks ago, I started having symptoms of a urinary tract infection. Urgency, pain, a tiny bit of blood, the whole nine yards. I wanted to avoid urgent care, I was seeing my (incredibly amazing) primary care physician just a few days later. Dandelion is a great diuretic and has anti inflammatory properties, so I picked all the dandelions in my yard (SEE DISCLAIMER BELOW) and made tea with them, adding echinachea root for the antibacterial properties, and lavender buds to help relax the muscles.
Four days later, my urine analysis was clear. My P*P and I decided that because of my history, we should send it off to culture anyway. Two days later, the culture came back clear.
Did I have a UTI? I dont know, without confirmation, I can't say for sure. But I do know that the pain went away a few hours after my first mug of tea, and the other symptoms subsided quickly, too. We'll never know if herbs cured an infection this time, but you can bet I will be using dandelion again in the future for urinary concerns.
IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: DO NOT use wild dandelions unless you know *for sure* they have not been sprayed with herbicides or insecticides. Also, avoid harvesting from areas near roadways, you dont want any of that junk in your tea either. Safe dandelion is available from many suppliers. Send me a message if you need help finding some!
Would you pick 'weeds' and make tea from them too?
