🫐✨ Bilberry: A Berry with a Legendary Past! Day 3✨🫐
This week’s Herb of the Week continues with some seriously cool historical vibes from our berry bestie—Bilberry!

🔹 12th Century: The first written prescription of bilberry appears—herbs with staying power!
🔹 Hildegard of Bingen, the OG herbalist nun, recommended it for respiratory support.
🔹 In Elizabethan England, people made a remedy called a “rob”—a syrup of bilberries and honey—for soothing diarrhea.
🔹 WWII RAF pilots swore by bilberry jam to improve their night vision before flying missions! Later studies backed it up—these berries really do help with visual sharpness in low light! 👀🌌
🔹 And in Slavic & Nordic folklore, bilberry patches were sacred places—home to forest spirits. Folk wisdom warned: don’t pick them all, or you might anger the magical beings who protect them! 🌲🧚‍♂️

From medieval medicine to wartime wisdom to mystical woods—bilberry has quite the tale to tell. 💙

🔍 Stay tuned for more bilberry magic all week long!

Howdy herb lovers! It's Day 2 of our Herb of the Week: Bilberry, and today we’re diving into its gorgeous botanical beauty and healing vibe!

✨ Meet Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) a low-growing, bushy little shrub that hides in the cool forests of Europe, showing off with deep blue berries and dainty bell-shaped blooms. With its tart, richly flavored fruit and glowing green leaves that shift to red in autumn, Bilberry is as stunning as it is powerful.

Healing Actions? Oh yes. This magical berry is:

A powerful antioxidant that protects cells like a tiny berry shield

Anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective—great for calming and protecting the nervous system

An astringent—helping tone tissues

Hypoglycemic—it supports blood sugar balance naturally!

Energetically, Bilberry is cool and drying, which means it’s perfect when your system is running hot and damp. Think inflammation, sluggishness, or leaky tissues—it helps bring tone and clarity.

Keep following along this week as we explore even more of Bilberry’s gifts, from folklore to practical uses! 🌙✨

🍇✨ Herb of the Week: Bilberry ✨🍇
Let’s roll into Week 2 with one of Europe’s juiciest gems—Bilberry! Also known as European blueberry, Bogberry, or Whortleberry, this little powerhouse is more than just a tasty bite. 💙 We use both the fruit and the leaves for their herbal magic!

Native to Northern and Central Europe, Bilberries love moist soil and a partially shaded to sunny spot to thrive. Want to grow your own? Keep your temps steady at 55–60°F, give ‘em a little space (2 inches apart!), and be patient—germination takes 2–4 months. But come late spring and summer, it’s harvest time! 🌱🍓

Whether you’re into growing, wild harvesting, or learning the healing ways of this sweet little berry, I’ve got a whole week of Bilberry wisdom coming your way!

👉 Follow along for more fun facts, history, healing properties, and how to use Bilberry in your herbal practice!

🌿 Herb of the Week: Astragalus Day 3🌿
Let’s take a stroll through herbal history! Astragalus has been a powerhouse in traditional Chinese medicine for over 2,000 years. 🌏 It was even ranked “highest class” in the legendary Divine Farmer’s Materia Medica! 💫

Officially recognized in modern Chinese pharmacopeia and introduced to the U.S. in 1952, Astragalus quickly earned the nickname "Young person’s ginseng" for its immune-boosting powers. 💪 And get this—an M.D. Anderson study in Houston showed real promise for patients on immune-suppressing chemotherapy! 🙌

This ancient root still shines today. Isn't that wild?! 💛

Day two of Astragalus membranaceus!
It’s a super cool perennial plant with big, woody roots and soft, hairy stems. It grows up to about 3 feet tall and has these cute little yellow, pea-like flowers that show off from midsummer to late fall. Oh, and get this, it smells kinda tangy and pine-like!

But the real magic? Its roots! Not only are they sweet-tasting, but they’re packed with powerful benefits. We’re talking antibacterial, antiviral, immune-boosting, and even diuretic properties. Basically, it’s like nature’s own little health warrior. And if you’re into herbal energy, this one’s considered warming. Perfect for when you need a little extra boost in your life!

Happy Ostara, Everyone! Play in the dirt, ground your self, plant a flower, or give thanks to the Earth for helping us grow strong roots and branches that can touch the sky! Today is a celebration of rebirth! I wrote Eostre a letter of gratitude and hopes for the spring season and placed it at the bottom of the hole I made to plant my Candle Larkspur. Hopefully she will bless me with prosperity and good health! How will you celebrate?
