It’s painful. It’s sudden. And sometimes it can take months or even years to be diagnosed.

Joshua Ring, M.D., emergency medicine specialist at Duke Regional Hospital said cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome (CHS) is becoming more common in our community due, in part, to ma*****na legalization in other states and increased THC potency in unregulated synthetic cannabinoids.

Dr. Ring is educating both patients and providers to recognize the warning signs early and avoid repeated ER visits:

“I believe if you utilize this internship to the fullest ability, you’re able to build meaningful connections.” – Bhadresh Amarnath.

This summer, Durham high school students stepped into Duke Health as future healthcare leaders.

Through the MaryAnn Black Internship, they explored careers, built confidence, and found mentors who believe in them.

We’re grateful to every team member who helps carry MaryAnn Black’s legacy forward. 💙

“He wanted to find a way to give back to other little kids…” - Branson’s Mom.

8-year-old Branson recently returned to the Duke Pediatric Intensive Care Unit where he’s had three open heart surgeries to treat his rare congenital heart condition.

During one of his many stays he noticed that the children’s toy chest could use a few more choices, so he decided to create a toy drive to give back to other kids like him.

Duke Health has made history again. 💙

Our team developed a groundbreaking technique that reanimates infant donor hearts outside the body — a world-first innovation that could increase infant heart transplants by 20%.

It’s already saved a 3-month-old baby’s life — and it’s just the beginning.

“This is a major step forward in pediatric transplant medicine,” said Joseph Turek, M.D., Ph.D., chief of pediatric cardiac surgery at Duke Health. “On-table heart reanimation could dramatically expand the availability of precious donations — transforming loss into life with greater stewardship and hope.”
