It’s a symbiotic relationship. I have yet to enter a shop in NWA that has the stereotypical stand-off attitude from years past. Support your local shops. I promise your purchase is more like an investment.
I came across a post in a cycling group and felt the need to re-post. If you have a friend that works for or owns a small business please support them.
"Heard from many people over the last couple of days giving me PhD business economics lessons on the current state of the local bikes shops. The invisible hand of the market, law of the jungle, survival of the fittest, why should I pay extra for people’s bad business decisions, etc. And I think it’s short sighted. I would like you to imagine, as a cyclist, what life would be like without local bike shops. Who would support local bike rides, races, charities and bike rodeos? (Just to mention a few) Where would you go on the day of your big bike event when you have a flat, need a part, or an adjustment? What’s the cost if you had to drive 40, 50, or 100 miles for that service?
Right now many of our local bike shops are in terribly dire straits and could use the support of the local community. If your bike needs a service why not take in for service now? If you didn’t get the accessory you were hoping for over the holidays go pick it up now at your favorite local shop. Many shops have great deals on sales and service right now. Get to know the staff at your favorite shop, let them know your needs if you don’t see it. Will it cost more than online shop? Probably, but what’s the real cost when you need help and it’s no longer there? Doesn’t matter which local shop you support, just make it a habit." - Joe Crumlish
