Why is this happening?

Women, especially mothers, are living under an invisible weight. They carry the emotional and physical labor of raising children, managing households, nurturing relationships, and often working outside the home all without the consistent support of a village. Chronic stress, lack of sleep, poor nutrition, hormone imbalances, and emotional burnout are not just inconveniences they’re triggers for immune dysfunction. Our bodies are designed to protect us, but under unrelenting pressure, that protection turns inward. This is the heartbreak of autoimmunity.

We have created a culture that praises self-sacrifice and over-functioning in women while offering very little in return. Isolation has replaced community. Productivity has replaced rest. Women are expected to hold it all together perfectly, quietly, endlessly. Until their bodies break. The rising tide of autoimmune disease among women isn’t just a medical issue. It’s a social, spiritual, and systemic one. And it’s time we started listening, before it's to late.

Over Easter, we had an ENTIRE gluten-free feast. Not to mention, at least half was egg free or dairy free depending on the dish! I tell my patients all the time, do you want what you're used to, or do you want to try to find new options and feel 10 times better? I admit 10 years ago, gluten-free wasn't good. The options were pretty sparse, and it wasn't as widely acknowledged. But now, with the education and recipes available online and the options we have at our fingertips in the stores now, it is possible to "have your cake and eat it too!"🥖🍞🍰
