Wise words from the next generation…I’m so lucky to have this gem of a girl in my life… 💎
“In honor of PTSD Awareness Day, I wanted to write about what its like living with someone who has PTSD.

I don’t think anyone can truly understand PTSD, unless they have it. I get a good glimpse of what it’s like. My Mom has this condition from a car wreck she was in, long ago. (I lost my very good friend and the sweet young man we met that evening, who agreed to drive all 6 of us to a greek mixer) You never know what will trigger it, (panic responses, adrenaline flushes). But it’s always when we are in the car (occurred in the year 2000, symptoms can persist for decades.)

Maybe my Dad is a bit slow to come to a stop, in a split second that can bring her back. (intrusive thoughts, (body’s defense mechanisms occur, fight, flight or freeze or flash backs) I can see the fear in her eyes and it truly makes me so sad.

It’s not only the actual condition she has to deal with, but also the guilt that comes after. (Shame cycle) Sometimes she feels guilty for yelling at my Dad when it’s not even her fault. (Survivor’s guilt was present for approx 10 years as well).

These things are not light things to deal with, they are real problems that people struggle with & you may never have to know, what it’s like. “Have patience and empathy for people, because you may not even know that they are struggling.” ~ Olivia Kephart (14 years old).

10 beliefs that became more evident after providing therapy this year.

1. People get better
2. Forgiveness comes SLOW
3. You can’t fast forward grief
4. Humans are so much more resilient than we ever thought possible.
5. Love grows, heals.
6. Humans are in general, predictable.
7. We will do things for others, we won’t for ourselves.
8. Patience (long suffering) doesn’t come easy but is usually the answer.
9. Joy comes from giving.
10. Hope is everywhere.

1} If you don’t believe this, get out of the way.
2} We can’t rush it, we can’t ignore it, it isn’t easy for others to give it to us, and we will always need it.
3} The suffering is gut wrenching to watch, & all that is needed is to hold them dear.
4} Never underestimate the heart of a survivor.
5} Love melts the walls it makes a way like a river, and trickles down.
6} Habits are very hard to break, neuro-pathways are long well traveled paths.
7} Find others that need you to do good things for yourself.
8} The answer might be in the midst of suffering.
9} The best way to feel better, is to give to those who can’t give back to you.
10} Stay optimistic that the future is in good hands. There is evidence everywhere.

We are dedicated to celebrating, thanking, and remembering our Veterans here at MTC. Here are photos of a few of our very good friends. (we keep good company). Individuals close to us, but also represent the tens of thousands of soldiers who served, came home, & carried on with life. I can tell you, there are wounds inside that we will never see. The bravery of these to push on, inspires me to do the same with my own pain. Hug a veteran and thank them for your freedoms 🇺🇸(Our friends represent the Army, Navy, & Marine Corps.)

We were so lucky to have , work on our team of therapists during her post graduate work. Kerri served our clients so well for the last two years, while she earned 4,000 hours of experience, and went on to pass the ASWB Exam. Now she can officially practice on her own!
Whoohoo, we are so proud and honored to watch new therapists join the ranks and step into the gut-wrenching/life-giving world of mental health! Cheers Kerri 🥂 proud of you!

Love is not the least bit illogical or random, but actually an ordered and wise recipe for survival. This is according to clinical researcher and psychologist Dr. Sue Johnson. If you are looking for a book with insights to improve or even save your relationship or marriage, start with “Hold me Tight. This book presents a revolutionary new understanding of why and how we love, based on cutting-edge research by Dr. Sue Johnson, a clinical psychologist takes you through 7 conversations to have with your mate, giving you new language, new skills, and a better way to understand your partner, leading to fewer negatives cycles and a more secure bond.
Love Sense, also based on this ground breaking research, will make you think about love differently. This book is primarily written for therapists and clinicians; but, I believe everyone could benefit from learning the scientific findings that began her journey to develop Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). This book covers the three stages of a relationship and how to best weather them; the intelligence of emotions and the logic of love; the physical and psychological benefits of secure love; and much more.
Make time to celebrate your love today, and remember the best gift of all, is learning what makes you a better partner. 🤍

I am over the moon excited for a couple that has been working hard all year on their relationship. They have learned to respond healthier, not shy away from the hard things, been more vigilant about growing individually and as a couple.
And now they’re engaged! Congrats to two beautiful souls that said yes to vulnerable love. ❤️🖤

"I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."

Every nation, every tribe, every language, Every. Single. Soul. Is created equal.

We at MTC believe in the equal rights and opportunities for all. Thank you DR. King for your service, leadership, & dying devotion to the cause! We honor you today.
