Meet our intern, Tracey! 👋

“My passion is growth and self-improvement, and being able to help others with this endeavor is what fills my cup. Counseling provides me with the opportunity to carry out in a professional capacity, what I feel is my personal calling. I lean towards a cognitive-behavioral perspective, focusing on the interrelatedness of our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and aim to equip clients with the self-awareness and skills that enable them to function in more adaptive ways. I also utilize a person-centered approach based on empathy, authenticity, and the unconditional acceptance and valuing of clients.

My goal is to honor my clients as people, and to provide a space where they feel completely seen and heard. I aim to empower through self-exploration, increased self-awareness, and by providing insight, psychoeducation, and assistance with skill-development. I enjoy the art of helping clients make sense of confusing and complicated areas in their life, and I believe it takes a collaborative effort to do so. Regardless of what you are going through as an individual or as a couple, I believe that together we can find a way forward towards a happier, healthier and more fulfilling life.“ - Tracey Sims

Meet our intern, Aryn! 👋

“My goal is to help you become the most authentic version of yourself and identify the patterns that keep you stuck so that we can uproot the beliefs that no longer serve you. As a Marriage and Family Therapy graduate student at Liberty University, I am passionate about family systems and looking at generational patterns that impact you. In relation, I utilize a blend of structural therapy, narrative therapy, and cognitive-behavioral therapy to map out your familial roots as well as the stories you understand to be true about your life. I hold unconditional positive regard for my clients and aim to meet each one with compassion, empathy, and genuine care. As a military spouse and a mom, I can relate to the everyday struggles of young women and family life. My undergraduate degree is in fine arts with a focus in glass blowing and I currently enjoy photography.” - Aryn Wang

13/07/2023

Dismissive-avoidant attachment is a type of attachment style that is characterized by a strong desire for independence and self-sufficiency, often at the expense of close interpersonal relationships.

People with this attachment style tend to avoid emotional closeness and intimacy with others, often pushing people away.

Here are some key characteristics of dismissive-avoidant attachment style:

High Level of Self-Sufficiency:

Individuals with a dismissive-avoidant attachment style often pride themselves on their independence.

They prefer to rely on themselves rather than seeking help or support from others.

Avoidance of Emotional Intimacy:

People with this attachment style often avoid deep emotional connections with others. They might seem detached and unresponsive to the needs and feelings of their partners.

Difficulty Sharing Feelings:

Individuals with dismissive-avoidant attachment often struggle to express their feelings. They may come off as emotionally distant or uncaring.

Dismissive Attitude towards Relationships:

These individuals often have a low opinion of relationships, viewing them as unnecessary or burdensome. They may believe they don't need others to be happy or fulfilled.

Defensive Mechanisms:

To protect themselves from getting hurt, these individuals may use defense mechanisms like denial, repression, and rationalization.

For example, they might downplay the importance of a relationship or convince themselves they don't care when a relationship ends.

Understanding your attachment style can be beneficial in personal growth and building healthier relationships.

If you identify with the dismissive-avoidant attachment style and it's causing distress in your relationships, you might find it helpful to seek guidance from a mental health professional.

They can provide strategies and tools to help you develop more secure and healthy attachment patterns.

It's important to know about trauma responses because trauma affects everyone differently, and recognizing the signs of trauma can help individuals receive the support and care they need.

Trauma can occur in many forms, including physical, emotional, sexual abuse, natural disasters, and accidents.

Traumatic experiences can have long-lasting effects on a person's mental, physical, and emotional health, and it's essential to understand how someone may respond to trauma.

Here are some reasons why it's important to know about trauma responses:

Early Intervention:

Recognizing the signs of trauma early on can lead to early intervention, which can prevent the development of more severe symptoms such as PTSD and depression. Early intervention can also promote healing and recovery.

Empathy and Understanding:

Knowing about trauma responses can increase our empathy and understanding towards those who have experienced trauma. It can help us to be more compassionate and supportive towards those who are struggling with the effects of trauma.

Avoiding Triggers:

Understanding trauma responses can help individuals avoid triggers that may cause them to re-experience traumatic events. This can be critical in helping individuals manage their trauma and prevent further harm.

Creating Safe Spaces:

Knowing about trauma responses can help individuals and organizations create safe spaces for those affected by trauma. By providing a supportive environment, individuals can feel more comfortable seeking help and support.

Improved Treatment:

Educating healthcare professionals and caregivers about trauma responses can lead to improved treatment and care for those who have experienced trauma.
