Hi, I'm Miriam Joe Osei , the Owner and C.E.O of Asa Behavioral Healthcare and Research Institute. I am also a QASP-S and clinical supervisor in the field of ABA Therapy with over 18 years of experience helping children and families maximize their child's potential. When I was 5 years old, I wanted to be a teacher. By 7 years old I had cemented in my heart I would become a child psychologist. In 2008, I began my journey in the field of ABA Therapy and I have loved it. I'm a big advocate for vulnerable people and an international missionary that loves to share God's love with everyone I meet. I have practiced ABA in 3 continents and would love to serve many more communities and countries that don't have access to quality ABA Therapy.
Having been an RBT for many years before becoming a supervisor, I learned the importance of running a company that doesn't only cater to the client, but that also cares for the grassroot level staff the RBTs. I also learned things that I would NEVER do to my employees as a business owner and supervisor. By the grace and wisdom of God I have been able to establish a company with a POSITIVE company culture that emphasizes compassion, integrity and excellence. These are the values I personally hold dear to my heart and that we try to help our staff further develop as they join our team. Providing QUALITY ABA is so much more important to me than building what I call an "ABA Factory" - these are companies that have numerous clients but low quality treatment goals, poor implementation of ABA, and that treat their staff poorly. The have a poor understanding of ABA and try to incorporate corporate America business tactics in a human service field. The other type of company I have encountered is the "ABA Farm"- these companies are constantly hiring and hoard ABA Therapists but they don't care if their employees have enough hours to work and whether they can take care of their families or not, they are perpetually waiting for a client and treated with disdain when they advocate for themselves and appeal for more hours. Their focus is on the quantity of clients and staff they can have versus quality. There are many things that CAN and SHOULD change within the field of ABA Therapy. CHANGE can only start with us as practitioners, choosing to be intentional about being COMPASSIONATE-scientist practitioners and holding the companies we work for to higher standards. No company is perfect, but we must be brave to voice out our concerns in a constructive manner, owners, managers and supervisors must remain humble to receive feedback and improve their company's policies and procedures, we must customize our workplace reinforcements for our unique staff and utilize the PRINCIPLES of APPLIED BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS in our organizations versus only in practice towards our clients.
Applied Behavior Analysis is an incredible science that the world needs and we have the onus to continue studying, researching, educating people about our field and raising awareness about the positive impact ABA has in every industry, not just autism-therapy or ABA Therapy. I'm committed to making a DIFFERENCE in this field for the BEST. How about you?
