Fayetteville Menstrual Dignity Program

Fayetteville Menstrual Dignity Program The Fayetteville Menstrual Dignity Program is an effort to address period poverty.

We want to help menstruators by alleviating economic strain and experiences of shame that are often barriers for menstruators accessing their education, work and daily activities. Our mission is to collect community donations and provide period products to those in most need.

📣 A quick shout-out to some of the players involved in the Classroom Bin Project at Fayetteville Public Schools.

🌎 The Ambassadors manage their school period pantry and make sure their school classroom bins stay filled. They are a direct contact for participating staff to request bin replenishment or have supplies stocked like the wall stickers or the take home kits.
Ambassadors safe keep menstrual equity values and goals, such as access and inclusion. They are the cornerstone of the classroom bin model!

🥌 The Team: Amber Adney Jackson, Shanda Beth Walden, and Megan Tullock. Collectively, jointly, unitedly, effectively coming together and converging around Menstrual Equity in public schools ♾️
Achievement unlocked 🏹

💲The Sponsors did so much more than fundraise and collect donations for an awesome cause. They got the convos going 🗣 around Menstrual Dignity which helps destigmatize the experience of having a period. Your engagement is the magic sparkle to the project ✨ and we THANK YOU 🙏🏻

📣 A Shout-Out to Fayetteville Public Schools for letting us run this project in the district and for receiving it with enthusiasm!

🩸Today is Menstrual Hygiene Day, 2024, and we are announcing a BIG CHANGE!
The Fayetteville Menstrual Dignity Program project has OFFICIALLY been received by the Fayetteville Public Schools and will be FULLY FUNDED starting next year!!🥳

🩸When we first approached the school district we were met with mediocre interest because the district thought they were already meeting the menstrual needs of their students (having tampons in the nurse’s desk).
After 2 years of amazing staff participation and 165 classroom bins across the district, FPS has accepted the project as their own with an astounding, “Absolutely”!

🩸We are so proud of the community for your attention to the issue of period poverty and your donations, the school staff for participating with gusto, and, of course, the students and families who led us and showed us what they need so we could provide for them in the best way possible. The classroom bin model has really been effective and students often vocalize how grateful they are. We know when students and families feel cared for, this increases overall well-being.❣️

🩸Systemic change is the BEST CHANGE and we are here for it!! Wouldn’t it be great if every district in the state followed this model?

*Stay tuned for future projects by FMDP. We will continue working towards Menstrual equity in our community🥰

It’s the end of the school year and we have our YEARLY REPORT ready to share!
We couldn’t be more thrilled with how much our community showed up showed out for our Fayetteville Public Schools students!

We put 34,364 products in the classroom bins and donated around $31,240 dollars worth of period supplies for students and their families.

Fayetteville, give yourself a pat on the back- you showed our kids we care about their basic needs being met so they can attend school, work and daily activities. No one should go without essential menstrual products. So proud of our community!

Thank you to all who donated and special thanks to those who got the convos going about menstrual dignity, even if it felt uncomfortable. Your participation helps normalize menstruation and we are so thankful for your curiosity and engagement in the program! 🩸

🌟We have zines!
If you would like a set for yourself or for your organization, reach out and we will get these to you and your patrons.

These zines are pocket guides for PARENTS. Both moms and dads will learn the basics about preparing for your teen’s first period, how to approach menstruation with your son, and how to talk to your non-binary/trans teens about periods.

These are fun, helpful guides and we want the community to have them!
Since we are a grassroots, mutual aid group, we sometimes have to ask our community to help fund our efforts.
If you’d like to assist in printing cost for these cool zines, send a monetary donation via our venmo account. We appreciate your help!

🌟Zineproduction goal: 500 copies for community distribution.

See all those pads and tampons? The community showed out and donated a large supply for our classroom bins and take home kits.
If hearts could melt, ours just did 🫶🏻
