Happy Monday!
Meet Nate! Nate loves baseball and bowling and shares that he hopes to get his driver’s license. When we think of Nate, a word that comes to mind is 𝘧𝘶𝘯. Nate’s enjoyment in the things he does comes from his love of spending time with other people. We are so glad he is part of Person to Person. He is a joy to our community and we’re happy he’s our neighbor!

Happy Thursday!
Popcorn, candies, drinks, and the new movie 𝘏𝘰𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴 make for a fun afternoon with friends! This past Tuesday, we enjoyed spending time in Onondaga County at the Movie Tavern. Creating space in the middle of our week to enjoy these sweet moments together is one of our favorite things to do. So wonderful seeing those who could make it!

Happy Monday!
Person to Person is about a community of individuals establishing a rhythm of togetherness - carving out space in our day to share simple enjoyments with each other. It starts with first noticing our neighbor and then knowing our neighbor. It reveals the value in the face before us. It demonstrates how giving leads to receiving and how much better our lives become when we do things side by side.

We are richer for it.

Happy (early) Valentine’s Day!
We got to hang out in Cortland this week with some of our friends at the lovely Parkside Villa! For our gathering, we made flower and leaf pressed lanterns while sipping some warm drinks and eating donuts. We even managed to squeeze in a couple fun valentine games too! So good seeing those who could make it, including our wonderful student volunteers we’re excited to have back!

Happy Friday!
We had such a fun start to this week as we gathered with our neighbors for our annual holiday party in Onondaga! We enjoyed delicious Italian food from Mario and Salvos and spent the evening with music and singing along to holiday classics. We also had bingo and prizes, animal ballons, gifts, and a fun Christmas movie playing in the background! It was a memorable evening. We loved seeing those who could attend and we’re wishing all of our neighbors a wonderful holiday season!

We had a blast at our holiday party in Oswego this past Saturday! Our friends and neighbors gathered for a day of bowling at the wonderful Lakeview Lanes Bowling Alley. Everyone enjoyed a time for games and prizes, delicious food, and even received a visit from Santa himself! Thank you to all of those who celebrated with us! We hope you had a great time! Looking forward to next year’s party and welcoming suggestions if anyone has any. Wishing you all a wonderful holiday season!

We kicked off the holiday season with a party in Cortland! Our evening was filled with a delicious turkey dinner, cookie decorating, hot cocoa, holiday bingo, gifts, live music, and time well spent with our friends and neighbors. Thank you to our advocate, Monica, and her husband Marc for delighting us with holiday songs to sing along. Thank you also to the Parks Alumni House for creating a beautiful space and for always providing excellent service. And thank you to Kiwanis in Cortland for their generous support in helping us provide a turkey dinner! We appreciate you all!

Person to Person: Citizen Advocacy

The mission of Person to Person: Citizen Advocacy (PPCA) is to promote the protection of and advocacy for people who are devalued, usually due to a mental or physical disability. PPCA programs bring the needs of an individual at risk of social isolation to the attention of a citizen who, with support staff, will respond to those needs through a freely given advocacy relationship.

People with developmental disabilities live in every neighborhood. We are neighbors helping neighbors. Most importantly, the community volunteer advocate is the protégé’s friend who shows and shares the world around them. With support from the Person to Person staff, matches between advocates and persons with developmental disabilities are created to often form long-lasting friendships that can make all the difference in the world to an individual.
