The Magician is one of my favorite cards in the Tarot. (I feel like I say that about every card, but hey, what can I say, I love what I do.)
The card of manifestation and creative works, the Magician encourages the reader to apply their skills to create what it is they desire. Whether that be manifesting a new job or creating a new work of art, this is the card that tells you to put your will and creativity to work. Take the first steps to live the life of your dreams and as long as you put in the effort, you will have success (even if that success isn’t what you initially envision).
In traditional imagery, the magician has the symbolism of all four suits around him (wand, cup, sword, and pentacle) as an expression of him applying all of his skills and knowledge to the task at hand. Sometimes your workings will test you, will make you bring all of your expertise to the table. Learning to balance all of the elements is part of the work required.
Learning is also a fundamental attribute of the Magician, which can represent teachable parts of manifestation. Look to what you can learn from others and how you can apply it to your own tasks, while also looking to see what you can teach others.
The Magician is a powerful card to appear in a reading, not just because it’s a Major Arcana. It’s early in the tarot and represents big steps taken along life’s journey. Manifest what you desire. Create your own destiny. Learn from others. Balance your numerous talents. Only you can make the world that you envision.
