Before the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) was passed, many children with disabilities were shut out of public school. Today, millions learn, grow, and access opportunities thanks to a law grounded in equity and inclusion. That’s why 50 years of IDEA matters.

We, like many other disability-focused organizations, have serious concerns regarding the policy changes happening in special education at the federal level. Without clear enforcement and accountability for standards set forth under federal special education law, students lose.
