📢 The Conference is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Evely to its Board of Directors.

📚 Evely currently serves as Chair of the Department of Applied Health Sciences and Director of the Mortuary Science Program at Wayne State University. He brings extensive academic and professional experience to the organization as a licensed funeral director and member of the Michigan Board of Examiners in Mortuary Science.

👏 In addition to his leadership in funeral service education and regulation, he also serves in the United States Coast Guard and is a licensed attorney in multiple states.

🌟 She’s a star! The Conference is proud to celebrate Rachel Mackey, a valued member of the ICFSEB Exam Development Team, who was recognized for graduating from the National Emerging Leaders Program (NELP) through NFDA.

🧠 The NELP is a year-long program designed to develop transformational leaders through in-person and virtual trainings in mentorship, communication, strategic planning and more.

The Conference has officially appointed its Model Application Committee after reviewing an impressive pool of applicants.

🧑‍⚖️ Meet the Committee and their affiliations:
Kortney Adams (Chair) – Nova Scotia
Mark Evely – Michigan
Sarah Georgen – Virginia
Erika Malone – Maryland
Erin Wilson – Dallas Institute of Funeral Service (TX)

📄 The Model Application helps bring consistency to funeral service licensure across jurisdictions. It's a key resource for standardizing terminology, improving portability, and supporting regulatory boards.

📝 The committee will review and update the application to best serve funeral service professionals. Stay tuned for updates as they begin their important work!

👋 Meet Kortney Adams, ICFSEB District 1 Director

👏 She has served as Secretary-Treasurer and Executive Committee member for the Nova Scotia Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors for the past seven years. She also works in not-for-profit board and committee activities throughout the province and is a member of the ICFSEB Finance Committee.

🤩 Kortney was appointed to The Conference Board of Directors in 2024 and then elected to serve a full term in 2025. We are incredibly grateful for her strong advocacy for quality education and strong licensure standards within the funeral service profession.

👋 Meet Matalie Mickens, ICFSEB District 3 Director!

🌟 Matalie has more than 20 years of experience as a licensed funeral director and embalmer! She currently serves as the Board Executive for the South Carolina State Board of Funeral Service.

👏 In 2020, She made history by becoming the first ever woman to hold the position of Funeral Home and Cemetery Inspector in South Carolina. Upholding the integrity of the funeral service profession and National Board Exam is paramount to her service on the ICFSEB Board of Directors.
