Since 1930, Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home has had the privilege of serving our community from our historic home, built in 1888. For over a century and generations of change, we have stood as a place of comfort, reflection, and togetherness.
We are saddened to close this chapter, but we also feel immense gratitude. Over the years, this building has welcomed families in their hardest moments—offering support, space to grieve, and moments of peace. It has been more than just a workplace; it has been a home for healing, remembrance, and community.
To everyone who walked through our doors, trusted us with your loved ones, and allowed us to be part of your lives—we thank you, deeply. Your stories, your strength, and your kindness have meant everything to us.
For the past 10 years, it has been my honor and privilege to serve as your funeral director. I am deeply thankful for the trust and support this community has shown me during that time. Though this chapter at Dodd-Payne-Hess is coming to a close, I want you to know that my commitment to serving families remains strong.
I will be transitioning to a new role as General Manager of Blue Ridge Funeral Home and Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. It’s my sincere hope to continue serving you and your families for many years to come in this next chapter.
I'm also proud to share that Sierra Neubert will be joining Blue Ridge to complete her training as a funeral director, and Matthew Bradford will continue in his role as an attendant. Both have been dedicated members of our team, and I’m excited to see them grow in their service.
I would also like to extend heartfelt thanks to Rebecca Lacy, who served as our office manager during our final years, and especially to Dorlina Kincaid for her remarkable 25 years of service to Dodd-Payne-Hess and the families of this community. Her dedication, compassion, and presence have meant more than words can express.
With heartfelt thanks—for the memories, the moments, and the many lives we’ve been honored to serve. Though the building may now be quiet, the memories and connections created here will always remain.
