A Day of Serving – Hoke County

Veterans Bridge Home extends our heartfelt thanks to the Hoke County Veterans Service Office and the Fayetteville VA HUD-VASH Office for their outstanding partnership and collaboration during our "A Day of Serving" event in Hoke County.

Together, we served over 20 veterans, providing critical support and resources. One veteran, facing imminent homelessness, was connected on the spot to housing assistance that prevented her from sleeping in her car. In addition, she received food gift cards to address food insecurity, all in a single day.

This event was a powerful reminder that we are better together when we unite to serve our community. One day. One team. One mission.

Our mission relies on donations. Your support is vital. Please consider donating today: https://veteransbridgehome.org/donate/

The current heat wave in North Carolina is no joke, and we want to ensure everyone stays safe out there! While staying hydrated is crucial, it’s not enough on its own, especially for those considered high risk.

Here’s what you need to know:

1. Hydrate Wisely: Drink water regularly, but don’t rely solely on thirst. Set reminders to sip throughout the day!
2. Avoid Overexertion: Limit strenuous activities, especially during the hottest parts of the day. Listen to your body!
3. Check on Each Other: If you know a fellow Veteran who may need assistance, reach out! We’re all in this together.
4. Cool Down: Find air conditioning or shaded areas. A cool shower can also help lower your body temperature.

Your health matters, and taking extra precautions can make all the difference. If you have concerns or need support, the VA Fayetteville Coastal Health Care System is here for you.

Stay safe and cool! 💙

The summer heat is here, and we want to ensure our Veteran community stays safe. High temperatures can pose serious risks, especially for older adults, those with chronic conditions, or veterans taking certain medications.

Know the Signs of Heat-Related Illness:
✅ Heat Exhaustion: Heavy sweating, dizziness, nausea, headache, cold/clammy skin.
🚨 Heat Stroke: High body temp (103°F+), confusion, rapid pulse, loss of consciousness. Call 911 immediately if suspected!
Protect Yourself & Others:
💧 Hydrate: Drink water regularly—even if you’re not thirsty. Avoid alcohol/caffeine.
🌳 Stay Cool: Limit outdoor activity during peak heat (10 a.m.–4 p.m.). Use fans/AC, or visit cooling centers.
👕 Dress Smart: Lightweight, light-colored clothing and hats.
🤝 Check In: Reach out to fellow veterans, neighbors, or family—especially those living alone.
