What's on the menu this week?

"Eating the rainbow" is more than just a fun, colorful phrase; it's a simple, powerful way to ensure children get all the nutrients they need for healthy growth and development.

Each color in the rainbow of fruits and vegetables represents a different set of vitamins, minerals, and plant-based compounds called phytochemicals. These phytochemicals are what give produce its vibrant color, and each one has a unique "superpower" that helps the body in a different way.

What to watch for:

How to help prevent the spread:

Please join us in giving a warm welcome to the newest member of our Rainbow Pediatrics family, Amanda who is an LPN and works at our new Lumberton location.

No stranger to our community, Amanda joins us with an incredible 27 years of experience in pediatrics. She's worked as a CNA and LPN, and most recently served as a Vaccine Coordinator at Children's Health. Her passion and knowledge for children's health make her a perfect fit for our team.

When you stop by the new Lumberton clinic, be sure to say hello and welcome her! We’re so happy to have her on board.

Please join us in wishing Kellyn a very happy birthday. We hope your day is as bright and special as you are.

Using a spoon is the most common mistake parents make when giving children liquid medication. A standard kitchen teaspoon is not the same as a medical “teaspoon,” which is a precise measurement of 5 milliliters (5mL). Kitchen spoons are not standardized and can vary greatly in size, leading to significant medication dosing errors.

Instead, you should always use the measuring tool that comes with the medicine, whether it’s an oral syringe, a dosing cup, or a dropper. These tools are specifically designed to give you an accurate dose, and they have clear markings in milliliters (mL) or teaspoons (tsp). The oral syringe, in particular, is the most precise tool for liquid medications.

It is officially flu season, and the best way to prevent your child from getting the flu is by scheduling their flu vaccine as early in the season as possible.

Last year was a doozy with the highest cumulative hospitalization rate observed since the 2010-2011 season. The reason for this is believed to be low vaccination rates, as less than 50% of eligible children in the U.S. received the flu vaccine.

The CDC recommends that everyone eligible to receive the vaccine, over six months of age, get it. Call us today to schedule or come to one of our flu clinics, which will be announced soon.
