LH capsules (Lianhuaqingwen) are an effective & safe traditional Chinese herbal formula used in China to resolve COVID-19 symptoms. Read about the new clinical trial below.

Nearly 300 patients received 12 total LH capsules daily for 2 weeks and the control group received usual treatment.

Results: LH capsule patients vs. control group:

symptom recovery was faster (7 days vs. 10 days)

chest CT scan improvements were significantly greater (83.8% vs. 64.1%)

recovery rate was higher (91.5% vs. 82.4%)

"In conclusion, LH capsules confer therapeutic effects on Covid-19 by improving the recovery rate of symptoms, shortening the time to symptom recovery, and improving the recovery of chest radiologic abnormalities."

The fact that many people are unfamiliar with Traditional Chinese Medicine terms lead to the misconception that it is "folklore" and doesn't fit within the modern medicine world. "The terminology in TCM may be strange and complex, but it serves a vital purpose in individualized diagnosis and treatment. It also integrates well with, and adds to, modern medical terms and disease description."

"These strange TCM terms are not esoteric and spiritual concepts. These words were created to objectively express fundamental ideas of complex physiology in the body. By using diagnostic terms that bring us back to fundamental concepts, or universal paradigms, the language helps the physician to see the body as an interconnected system, or holistic mechanism, that always adheres to natural laws and patterns, and continually strives to maintain a natural homeostatic balance of healthy substance and function, or the qi of yin and yang. Qi, Yin and Yang are not specific things that can be measured, but broad descriptive terms that can be applied to almost any measurable concrete entity in medicine."

"For example, in TCM terminology, the word Damp does not mean what we commonly perceive the word damp to mean, but, depending on the context, may represent a biochemical imbalance that has the qualities of dampness in nature, such as a sluggish flow, or a heaviness, which must be applied to the context of use."

The terms used in TCM are reliant on context to understand a specific condition or a specific patient case.

"Problems with healthy systemic function in regards to toxicity, diabetes, Metabolic Syndrome, lipid imbalance, biochemical dysfunction, etc. all may be termed Liver Qi Stagnation in TCM. Of course, the physician that practices TCM must also specify the disease using modern medical terminology, and this modern system is taught extensively in the specialized medical schools as well. TCM medical schools are ensuring the graduates can integrate and communicate with modern medical doctors on a much higher level today than in the past."

Misconception #3 about acupuncture is that acupuncture is only used to treat muscle pain. While it does treat this, acupuncture is actually used to treat a wide and diverse set of conditions including cardiovascular disorders, neurological disorders, digestive system disorders, skin conditions, eye conditions, gynecological & obstetric disorders and so much more!

Acupuncture treats an array of conditions by powerfully encouraging the body's healing capacities, sending detailed instructions about what areas of our physiology need attention, and helping the whole organism regain homeostasis.

If you're curious how we can treat any medical condition(s) you have, give us a call at (479) 358-7690.

Meet Katie!

She is ActiveLife's therapist and billing/front desk coordinator.

Get to know Katie:

What do you like to do in your free time?

In my free time I like to spend time with the people I love, cooking and eating food, hiking outside, being active, and educating myself. You can often find me reading and learning about whatever subject peaks my interest at the moment!

What's your favorite part about ActiveLife?

My favorite thing about ActiveLife is that it's a place to come to heal. I love it when patients tell me about their progress, and I've experienced the many benefits of the medicine in my own life. Chinese Medicine can treat so many things, and I feel so fortunate to have been able to see so many people meet and exceed their goals in regards to their health, both physically and mentally.

What's your favorite product/service at ActiveLife?

I love the variety of products and services that ActiveLife provides. Whether it's acupuncture, herbal medicine, counseling, rehabilitation movement instruction....we have it all under one roof, ready to serve our community. Personally, the weight loss program was transformational for me. That and the custom Chinese herbal formulas. Can't leave those out!

Misconception #2 about acupuncture is that acupuncturists do not need a license/intensive education.

In fact, acupuncturists go through 3-5 years of schooling and training experience — before being licensed, an acupuncturist must complete national board exams and a MINIMUM of 1,365 hours of training. Dr. Hayden graduated from the accredited Chinese medicine school Seattle Institute of Oriental Medicine (SIOM), where they require 3,000+ hours of training.

Between Dr. Hayden's masters and doctorate program, Hayden has over 4,000 hours of training in acupuncture and Chinese medicine. In addition to acupuncture and needling therapy, accredited Chinese medicine schools include herbs, biomedicine, anatomy, physiology, biochemisty, pharmacology, pathophysiology, and clinical experience.

It is of utmost importance that acupuncturists are properly trained and have put in the many hours of education required. A careless or under-experienced acupuncturist can result in serious bodily harm and the transferring of blood-borne diseases.

Most of our prescription herbal medicines have an earthy taste that you become acquainted with over time. However, we do have the encapsulation option for our herbs if you would rather not drink the mixture. Ask us about this additional service for your next refill!

Did you know the majority of your immune system is in your gut?

Dr. Hayden always takes MegaSporeBiotics to boost immunity especially during flu/cold season.

These 100% spore-based probiotics build up beneficial bacteria to improve immunity and maintain a healthy gut barrier function.

MegaPre is a prebiotic that strengthens the probiotics by feeding keystone, beneficial bacteria in your gut! Some prebiotics on the market feed a wide variety of bacteria, including harmful bacteria, but MegaPre is designed to specifically feed only the beneficial bacteria that are needed for optimum gut health.

Come check out our entire line of Microbiome Labs products at the clinic or give us a call at (479) 358-7690 to have one of these products shipped to you!

Use food to build a healthier immune system and better mental health with simple time-tried approaches to nutrition. Learn the oldest source of dietary wisdom in TCM nutrition. Prepare for fall and the return of the cold and flu season. Eat right for health and for enjoyment! The immune-boosting foods featured here are roasted beets and fennel, bone broth congee and ginger sea vegetables. 😋🍴

We're kicking off a new series on common misconceptions about acupuncture! Misconception #1 is that the needles used in acupuncture hurt.

Acupuncture should NOT hurt, but you should feel it. The thin needles are inserted just below the surface of the skin and most people only feel a pinch that rapidly subsides. Many patients are relaxed and fall asleep during the acupuncture treatment.

Especially if you are afraid of needles, acupuncture can be intimidating but there is good news: acupuncture needles are so tiny that more than 40 could fit in a standard hypodermic needle! Some people don't even feel it!

If you are experiencing high levels of stress, depression, anxiety, or sleep disturbance, our curbside acupuncture is a quick and safe way for you to care for your mental health!

As we are now experiencing, it takes time to develop an effective and safe vaccine for a novel virus. Why not use medicine that has been tested to be effective and side effect-free for thousands of years?

In the event that you do contract COVID-19, you can find solace in the fact that Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is proving to be effective at rehabilitating patients. The sooner you begin TCM treatment, the better! The "effective cure rate" of qingfei paidu decoction (QPD), a Chinese herbal formula, against COVID-19 is over 90%.

TCM treatment has been applied in over 90% of COVID-19 patients in China. Herbal medicine formulas have shown to be potent and effective at relieving symptoms, shortening fever duration and reducing the number of mild cases that progress to severe. However, if a case does progress to severe, it is recommended to combine Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western medicine for the best results.

Post-COVID-19, "some people experience symptoms and pathological alterations like pulmonary fibrosis and multiple organ functional destruction after immunological injury, which may not be completely resolved during their hospitalization." TCM plays a very important role in restoring full health to COVID-19 patients.

We prescribe Antiviral TCM herbs specifically for your body composition. These will boost your immune system and reduce the chances of contracting COVID-19 and speed up recovery time if you do contract the virus!

What is Moxa?

Moxibustion "Moxa" is a Traditional Chinese Medicine therapy that uses burning mugwort herb to promote circulation by warming and nourishing. The mugwort herb releases chemicals that kill pain and stimulate immune function. The smoke produced by it is antimicrobial; it cleans the air!

This practice has been used to prevent and cure diseases for more than 2,500 years.

The burning herb is held near the skin at specific acupuncture points to warm the skin. Moxa transfers to an infrared heat so the heat is able to reach deeper tissues in the body.

A wide array of ailments can be treated by using moxibustion such as: soft tissue injury, menstrual cramps, fatigue, urinary incontinence, and even turning breech babies!
