In case you missed my edited update of my last post...

Hey everyone, I just released my book on Autistic Shutdown/burnout. Ebooks are on presale until 11/9 but the prints are for sale right now.

This book talks about autistic shutdowns/burnout and many triggers such as PDA, trauma, comorbidities, masking, substance misuse, spoon theory, RSD, children and shutdowns, and other topics related to Neurodiversity-Affirming therapy. Much of it relates to my own personal experience with it. It's good if you're struggling yourself, have children or loved ones who do, or if you work with clients or students who also struggle with this.

Would also appreciate all the shares to get the word out!

Whenever you notice you’re having repetitive, unhappy times or repetitive unhappy feelings, here is a simple—but powerful— 4-step process to get you back on track:
Step 1. Feel bad on purpose.
Spend a few seconds feeling bad; go to that dark place.
Let the bad feeling wash over you.
Sounds sort of crazy, but if you know how to make yourself feel bad, you can also decide to interrupt it. That’s empowering.
Step 2. Interrupt the pattern.
Say “Stop!”
Stand up, or if you’re not able to, turn your head or wave your arms or hands.
Take 3 deep breaths.
By doing this, you create space where a momentary void will occur.
Step 3. Purposely focus on happy memories.
Fill the void with a happy memory so you can feel good on purpose. Remember, where you bring your attention always determines how you feel.
I ask my patients to write down 10-20 of their happiest life memories, so they can recall one of them while doing this exercise.
After you stand up, focus on one of those nice memories with all of your senses until you can truly feel happy or joyful.
Step 4. Celebrate!
Wire the good feeling in your nervous system by celebrating your ability to interrupt the unnecessary, unhappy moments.
Exercise: Practice Interrupting Unnecessary Unhappy Moments. To get the hang of it, start by thinking of two or three things that repeatedly bother you and do these four steps with each of them.

Conflict isn't a death knell to your relationship. 31% of the problems in a relationship are solvable, and the rest are perpetual problems that need to be managed. That's why we talk about "managing" conflict, rather than "resolving" conflict. Trying to solve unsolvable problems is counterproductive, and no couple will ever completely eliminate them. However, discussing them is constructive and provides a positive opportunity for understanding and growth.

Please join others for the International Day of Su***de Loss Survivors on Saturday November 19, 2022. This is the Saturday before Thanksgiving as a time for those experiencing this tragic loss before the holidays. Lunch will be served and the program will include a speaker, short film, panelists answering questions, and break out discussions. This is a time for encouragement and finding community through our grief journeys. We will also have a memorial moment.
