A lot of habits fail because people think missing once ruins it. That perfectionist, sh****ad inner voice may come in and tell you to try again next week. But missing Monday doesn’t mean you can’t do it Tuesday.

In Atomic Habits (highly recommend the read if you struggle with making changes stick), James Clear repeats a simple rule:
“Never miss twice.”

Consistency isn’t perfection.
It’s returning before stopping becomes the habit.

Small imperfect repetitions will always outlast
big perfect plans done once.

A lot of people confuse learning with fixing.. constantly learning why. Reading. Listening. Naming patterns. Understanding origins. Gathering insight.

And it feels like progress because it keeps the mind busy and fills the time. But busy doesn’t have to mean productivity is happening.

Understanding absolutely helps. It gives context. It reduces shame. It can explain how something formed. But understanding alone doesn’t interrupt a nervous system response or shift a lived pattern.

I was a top offender of intellectualizing. Very good at learning. Very good at knowing why. Still looping. Embodiment was so far outside my default way of operating that I didn’t even fully understand the word for a long time after I started doing the work. I truly thought thinking about it all the time was what I had to do, like I could think myself into action. But you can’t think your way out of a body pattern.

When insight stops working, the next step isn’t more information. It’s experience. Getting out of the thought loop and into the body. Breath. Movement. Sound. Slowing reactions enough to feel instead of analyze.

Get out of your head, get into your body.

This isn’t about blame & it’s not about people in violent or unsafe situations, so don’t come for my throat. 😬

It’s about the average mundane cases. The everyday stuff we complain about while continuing to do the same things.

Unhappy with your body? There are tools for that.
Stuck in the same relationship patterns? There are tools for that too. Feeling depressed or overwhelmed? Support exists. People keep walking all over you? Boundaries are learnable.

None of this is instant & none of it is just a ton of fun..
But staying the same is still a choice.

You’re not responsible for what happened to you.
You are responsible for what you do next.
