Mother’s Day can be complex so I’m going to address it in two parts. Happy Mother’s Day to those that are nurturing their family, however they established them and whatever that means to them. I’m being inclusive of moms to biological children, adopted or foster children, fur baby moms, and those that are the moms of their friend groups and families without being an actual mother. I respect and appreciate the love and nurturing that you put out in the world. Thank you and happy Mother’s Day.!
Second I want to extend some comfort and support to those that find this day difficult. To those that struggle with infertility, have experienced the death of a child, the death of their mother or maternal figure, or that have experienced a strain in their maternal relationship or had that relationship severed completely. I understand for you this day is a sad and sometimes heartbreaking. My advice would be to stay off social media the rest of the day and make sure to do something kind for yourself today. You matter too and I feel your pain. .

Celebrate if that’s where you’re at, or step back and take care of you if that’s where you’re at. Happy Mother’s Day! ❤️❤️❤️

We talk to ourselves all day. Our inner voice is the voice we likely hear more than any other since it’s with us constantly, our whole lives. Do you speak to yourself with the same kindness, grace, and generous spirit you would extend to a friend? Or is your inner voice your inner critic? Practicing speaking to and about yourself with more kindness is vital to improved mental health.

An often overlooked way to improve our mental health is enjoyable movement. Notice, I didn’t say exercise. Exercise is movement done with the intent to change your body or compensate for other behaviors or nutritional choices. Alternatively, enjoyable movement is engaging in some activity purely just because you enjoy it. Just 20-30 minutes of moderate enjoyable movement has been shown to increase endorphin levels for up to 24 hours. When done consistently this can mean reduced anxiety, reduced depression, more energy, and improved sleep. So go to adult skate night, go dancing, go chase some waterfalls on a beautiful hike, or hop on your bike take advantage of the expansive trail system that NWA has to offer!

Disclaimer: Movement is not a replacement for mental health care, but it can be a great supplement to self-care and mental health care. ❤️

The people you allow into your life can have such a huge impact on our emotional well being and feelings of support. Look closely at your inner circle. Have you selected people that accept you and value you exactly as you are? Are they kind and encouraging while also holding you accountable? Do they promote helpful behaviors, like being gentle with your body, and listen when you are having a tough day? Do you do the same in return? Great friends celebrate you when you are doing well and support you when you struggle. Choose wisely. .
