Mental Health Awareness Week midweek reminder: Take a moment to check in with yourself.

Small actions can build strong support systems.

Last night at the City Council meeting, Mayor Molly Rawn presented a Mental Health Awareness Week proclamation, reaffirming our city’s commitment to positive conversations, connection and support for mental well-being.

Council Member Dr. D’Andre Jones is a strong advocate for positive mental health awareness in his career and as a representative of Ward 1.

STEP OUTSIDE 🏞️

With warmer weather, one of the best things you can do is to get outside and enjoy some fresh air
•
Whether you go for a walk, go to the park, or participate in an outdoor activity
•
No matter what you decide to do outside, getting outside can improve your mood and it also has some other positive benefits too
•
If you want accountability, see if a friend or family member will join you
•
Nothing better than quality time with a loved one while also taking steps to better your mental and physical health
•

Fill Your Cup ✨

With the responsibilities that come with life, sometimes setting aside time to do the things you enjoy isn’t always a top priority
•
You might be able to get away with not filling your cup up but overtime it will start to affect you mentally + physically
•
When you are able to set aside time to fill your cup up, you are able to come out better for it
•

HEALING IS A JOURNEY ✨

Healing isn’t a quick process, it is something that will take time

The most important step towards healing is finding someone you trust who you can be open + honest with about what you have been through while also working towards where you want to be

It won’t be easy + it will be heavy at times but seeing the progress will not only benefit you but will also benefit those closest to you

No matter what you have been through, you don’t have to deal with it alone

Seasons Change 🏞️

Life can bring a variety of changes depending on the season of life you are in

Whether it is finding a new career path, moving to a new home, graduating college, becoming parents, or simply figuring out who you are + where your identity lies

With any change that comes with the season of life you are in, even if it is expected or planned can be a huge adjustment

Change can be a good thing but it doesn’t diminish the feelings that can come with it
•
Sometimes you don’t how you are going to deal with a life change until it is happening to you

When you are dealing with change, it is so important to surround yourself with people who can pour into you + be there for you

RESET + RECHARGE ✨

Between everyday life, sometimes our mental + physical health can end up at the bottom of our priority list

You might be able to get away with it for some time but eventually it will take a toll on you
•
With every demand + the responsibilities that comes with life, it is so important to take the time to better your mental + physical health
•
Whether it be taking a walk outside, eating healthier foods, or simply having some quiet time without any distractions around could make a difference mentally + physically
•
It may seem like a small task to you but the benefits could be life changing
•
Pouring into bettering your mental + physical health each day would not only benefit you but would also benefit those closest to you

✨ THERAPY SESSION ✨

Therapy throughout time has had a stigma attached to it
•
Some believe if you go to therapy you are weak but that is so far from the truth
•
Attending a therapy session is being able to talk with someone about your struggles + your successes
•
It is a space to not only dig deep to get to the root of the issues you are dealing with but to also learn more about why you are the way you are- your thinking patterns, your habits, your childhood, & anything else that might be beneficial to know
•
Everything you go through has an impact on you, whether negative or positive, and everyone is affected differently by it
•
Whether you seek out help from a licensed therapist or speak with a trusted friend/family member, just know you are not showing weakness
•
It takes just as much strength to admit you are struggling + you want to make a change
•
If you are ready to set aside the stigma of attending a therapy session, our therapists are more than ready to help you navigate whatever you are dealing with - take the first step to a better YOU 🥳

HEALING WILL TAKE TIME ⏰

From the outside you might not be able to see the things someone is struggling with or even the things that have been passed down from generation to generation
•
However, even if you don’t see it, you should still be kind and show compassion
•
If you have someone in your life who is brave to share their struggles with you, take heart + be there - to have someone let you in takes courage
•
If you are the one struggling, share your struggles with someone you love- you don’t deserve to struggle alone
•
If you don’t feel comfortable sharing with someone closest to you, our therapists are more than equipped to help you + provide resources to you
•
Healing will take time and everyone’s journey is going to look a little different. To put in the work will feel like a lot at times but the work you are doing is slowly shaping you into the YOU, the you that you have always wanted to be ♥️✨
