As safety is always our No. 1 priority, and the threat of severe weather is upon us, 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀, 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗳𝗳 𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟭𝟲, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲. Essential personnel should report to campus only as determined by their supervisors, and any faculty/staff needing their laptops to work on Monday (who do not already have such at their home) may travel to campus to retrieve them if they feel comfortable doing so.

• Go to the basement or interior hallway of your building’s lowest floor, if time permits. Otherwise, get into the safest area of the residence hall/building you are in – near the inside wall and as far as possible from doors and windows.
• Avoid auditoriums, gymnasiums, and other structures with wide, free-span roofs.
• Take shelter underneath a desk or any other heavy furniture that is available.
• Assume a “curled” seated position to better protect your head and eyes.

When on a remote schedule, students should look to communication from their faculty and in Canvas course sites for details about remote classes. Students doing off-campus clinical and field placements should follow guidelines from their respective sites. All online courses remain on a regular schedule.

In addition to residence halls being open, the Green & Gold Dining Hall will be open on its Brunch Hours schedule (10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. and 4:30-7:30 p.m.). Retail dining is closed.

𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘀 (𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀) 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆. Please look to the MU events calendar (methodist.edu/events) and the MU Athletics schedules (mumonarchs.com) for up-to-date information.

MU is closely monitoring all forecasts and will send out a message to all methodist.edu email addresses by Monday afternoon with an update. Based on current forecasts, the expectation is that MU will be back on a regular schedule for Tuesday. Please, though, continue to check your methodist.edu email addresses for confirmation, plus the methodist.edu web site homepage, and MU official social media for the latest information.

In addition, try to keep all of your devices charged, and keep on the lookout for info from Public Safety about campus notifications.

We’re proud to share that Jan Lee Santos, MD, MHA, MA, FACU has been named one of the Top 50 Voices in Higher Education for 2026 by Vevox.

Selected from thousands of nominations worldwide, this honor recognizes his outstanding impact in higher education.

Dr. Santos serves as Assistant Professor of Foundational Sciences at the Methodist University Cape Fear Valley Health School of Medicine, where he teaches microbiology, public health, and health systems science — preparing future physicians to deliver equitable, patient-centered care.
