✝️ Reflecting on the cross this Good Friday
Losing my babies completely changed the way I think about Jesus’ crucifixion. Before I knew grief, I would think about his suffering with a sort of displacement. Perhaps you could call it innocent ignorance. Once I experienced loss, I saw it differently.
“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning? O my God, I cry by day, but you do not answer, and by night, but I find no rest.” Psalm 22:1-2
I see it now — the immense suffering. Only a glimpse, surely, but a powerful one.
And if I have even the smallest bit of understanding of Jesus’ suffering, how much more does He understand mine?
Easter is a beautiful holiday - a time to be joyful and remember that death is not the end. Good Friday, though often overlooked, is just as beautiful. Its a time to remember that the Lord who brings you comfort is the same Lord who suffered on the cross. He has endured the utter darkness. And so, He knows your pain, your loneliness, and your grief.
If you are in a season of suffering this Easter, I encourage you to spend some time reflecting on the cross. Before jumping to celebrate the resurrection, we can take a moment to be truly grateful for the sacrifice and how great a gift it is to know that our God understands our groaning.
