Metabolic dysfunction–associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), formerly known as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), is a multifaceted disorder that involves hepatic fat accumulation and at least one of five cardiometabolic risk factors. In recent years, a line of evidence has suggested a close association between intestinal health and liver health.
