3/3 let's go!
Occasionally, the planets align in just the right way for an eclipse to occur. Early on the morning of March 3rd, 2026, we’ll witness the moon pass directly behind the Earth resulting in a total lunar eclipse. As Earth’s shadow (known as the umbra) falls across the moon, most shorter wavelengths of light are scattered away, while the longer, warmer wavelengths bend through Earth’s atmosphere and illuminate the surface of the moon. The result is the moon taking on an almost-spooky deep red glow.
No superstitions to worry about this time, as this eclipse occurs 10 days before Friday the 13th, instead of on it. Be sure to set your alarm early and head outside, as totality begins just after 6 am EST. Now we just have to hope Michigan’s clouds cooperate during this time by not showing up at all. This is the LAST lunar eclipse to occur for the United States until 2028, so enjoy it!
Please react and share this post to let your neighbors and family know of this spectacular event, thank you very much! We will also likely have cloud cover forecasts coming out as we get closer to March 3rd.
