Being the longest survival paddle race in the world, the is a test of both physical and mental endurance - taken on only by the world’s most resilient and courageous individuals.
More people have stood on the summit of Mount Everest than have paddled to or beyond Dawson City, and we couldn’t be more proud of 1st Phorm Athlete and .charged.1 for stepping into that category.
They covered an incredible 423 miles on the water, paddling up to 16-18 hours a day through raw wilderness with no support.
Ultimately, they made the difficult but wise decision to withdraw from the race due to a serious pressure injury .charged.1 sustained.
Continuing without access to medical care posed real risks - including infection, permanent damage, or death - and that’s a risk no finish line is worth.
They signed up for a challenge, pushed their limits, knew the risks involved, and knew when to stop.
Quitting is not the same as stopping, and if there’s anything we can all take away from the courage they showed, it’s that strength isn’t just about how far you can go; it’s about knowing when to make the hard, but right, decision.
We’re proud of these men for the battle and heart they put forth. We know this is just a small chapter in the story that will be told. The come back is always stronger than the setback and we’re excited to see what they take on next.
