Our Lead Prevention Educator, Christy Harter, had a wonderful time at Rather Elementary School last week, teaching the Kids Have Rights program to students from kinderstart through fourth grade. Shout-out to Rather Elementary's staff and students for having Christy come to their school to teach important body safety lessons!

The Kids Have Rights program educates and empowers students, school staff, parents, and caregivers to recognize, prevent, and stop child sexual abuse. The program teaches body safety education to elementary-age students through interactive, engaging classroom lessons. Students are taught how to recognize touches and situations that are, or may be, unsafe, and provided with the language and support to seek help from a Safe Adult when needed.

Last Sunday afternoon, the IM SAFE CAC's Youth Advocacy Council (YAC) members and advisors met at the CAC for a training and social retreat. They did lots of things during their time together! Members participated in team-building activities, created and signed a social contract, brainstormed their hopes and goals for the year, and decided how they would raise funds for their service project this year.

The meeting was also filled with guest speakers from the IM SAFE CAC: Intake Coordinator Jalissa Swinson, Lead Forensic Interviewer Katie Converse, and Family Advocate Kaitlyn Max. They educated YAC members about their role at the CAC, how forensic interviews are conducted, and answered any questions. Thank you to our guest speakers for speaking with our YAC members and providing further insight about the CAC and the work we do for our community!

Our Lead Prevention Educator, Christy Harter, visited Walnut Hills Elementary School this October to teach fourth-grade students the Kids Have Rights program. Christy had a great time seeing students and staff again this school year, teaching them about body safety!

Kids Have Rights is a program that educates and empowers students, school staff, parents, and caregivers to recognize, prevent, and stop child sexual abuse. Children in kindergarten through fourth grade are taught body safety education. Through interactive, engaging classroom lessons, KHR empowers students to attend to, value, and share their feelings. Students are taught how to recognize touches and situations that are, or may be unsafe, and provided with the language and support needed to seek help from a Safe Adult when needed.

Mark your calendars—Tuesday, December 2, is GivingTuesday! This global day of generosity brings people together around the world to support the causes that matter most.

The IM SAFE Child Advocacy Center is participating in GivingTuesday again this year. Our goal is to raise $1,250—the cost of one child’s visit to our center! Every child we serve receives the following services free of charge: a forensic interview, a medical exam, family advocacy, and 24 counseling sessions. We serve children ages 2-17 who have been sexually abused, severely physically abused, and human trafficked.

Every dollar makes a difference for a child who has experienced sexual abuse, severe physical abuse, or human trafficking. We can’t do this important work without your kindness and generosity—will you help us reach our goal? 💙

Here’s how you can get involved:

✨ Save the date for GivingTuesday—Tuesday, December 2!

💛 Donate at www.imsafecac.org or the event page below. Your gift helps children find safety, healing, and hope!

📱 Follow us on Facebook! We’ll be sharing updates, stories, and impact throughout the day on December 2 so you can see the difference you’re making in real time.

💬 Spread the word! Please share our GivingTuesday Fundraiser Page (below) with your Facebook friends, tell everyone you know why you care about IM SAFE CAC, and invite them to join you in supporting children in our community.

Thank you for helping us continue to be a safe place where children can heal, grow, and thrive!

Happy 8th Anniversary to our amazing Executive Director, Lori Kirkhoff!

Lori has been with the IM SAFE CAC since day one by helping open our doors in 2015 and volunteering as Interim Director before officially becoming our first Executive Director in 2017. Since then, she’s worked tirelessly to build and grow our CAC, achieving national accreditation, securing vital funding, and implementing the policies and best practices that ensure every child and family who walks through our doors receives care in a safe, supportive space.

Because of Lori’s leadership and dedication, more than 2,700 child victims of sexual abuse, severe physical abuse, and human trafficking have received the help and hope they deserve right here in Ionia and Montcalm Counties. 💙

We’re so grateful for Lori’s passion, vision, and heart for this work. Please join us in celebrating her 8 incredible years of leadership! Thank you, Lori, for everything you do! 🥳❤
