So how big is your drawing board? Does it have space for the turns and detours behind the small failures ? Is there room for all the possibilities? Do you roll up your sleeves , put on boots to follow a map while you draw, or stare at the blank spaces with trepidation adjusting your tie? Don’t forget only you can draw this work of art. Mine can’t fit yours if you really draw your own. I will never be able to make yours. I hope you use the courage available to all , to pour your art on this table..with all the scratches and doodles and rough patches only you can navigate, make, and envision. For the parents of the kids I have evaluated for autism and adhd in the past month at MAPS Integrated Wellness and for those who are wondering if their kid is neurodivergent in any way and what that means: I opened my panel last month to use a skill I mastered a long time ago: evaluation of brain function in children and adult. In that month, I have performed about 50 evaluations and reacquainted myself with how wonderful it is to run into kids that experience the world in different, marvelous ways. It has been an honor for me to help you figure out your child’s uniqueness, hearing the sacrifices you made and witnessing your love. My hope is to be a venue to enhance your kid’s exprience in a world that runs differently than theirs. My hope is that world stops referring to neurodivergence (and your child) as something to be fixed. No root cause for most of the disorders I evaluate has been identified and honestly I hope at some point it is no longer called “a disorder”. They are unique traits some people have, and we should aim to understand those traits to integrate them into the world we all share. I have to state, as a medical professional in current times, that most of you did nothing to produce those traits and the root cause for their existence has not been linked to any single factor. My message to you, however , it is not about root causes. My message is , thank you for letting me spend time with your wonderful child. We were so happy to spend time at the Florida Autism Center in Yulee. The center provides services for kids diagnosed in the autism spectrum in a very unique environment. Unlike school based or home based ABA theray, the center based therapy they offer occurs in a consistent and predictable environment with designated areas for various activities, minimizing distractions and facilitating learning all day long. At the center, children can practice social interactions with peers in a safe and supportive setting, while focusing on skill development that helps them prepare for the school setting. The best part Is insurance will cover their services. You can go tour their facility anytime. If your child was diagnosed with ASD I recommend checking them out. Our prescriber in Orange Park is now in network with Medicare, Aetna, United Healthcare, Humana, Tricare, and Cigna and Blue Cross under our group. We have three clinics in Amelia Island and one in Orange Park. Hi I’m Dr. Barreto (clinical psychologist and owner of MAPS integrated wellness and MAPS psychiatry and wellness). I’m standing in the neuropsychological testing room at MAPS, pleased to announce we are now beginning to call those who put their name on the list for autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, and neurocognitive disorder evaluations for children and adults. I will be evaluating childhood developmental disorders, dementia, TBIs and more. We got an overwhelming number of requests over the phone. However, The quickest way to request an appointment for an evaluation is to go to our website and click on the “book pediatric evaluation “ green button and fill out the form. When you submit, it will go directly to me. The option to schedule a comprehensive evaluation with our developmental team will be up and running soon. It will include psychology eval by yours truly, medical/ functional medicine assessment by Dr. Dutchak, as well as Speech Pathology, Nutrition, Hearing, Vision, occupational therapy, and academic curriculum evaluations with recommendations provided in a feedback session with our team. We began scheduling appointments for medication management in person in our new Orange Park location. Meet Tasha Ellsberry, the prescriber for our new MAPS Psychiatry and Wellness office! She will be seeing kids and adults in person in Orange Park and anywhere in FL, including Fernandina/Yulee, virtually. She will offer appointments in the evenings (3pm to 7pm) and weekends, which is ideal for a pediatric population (after school hours) and those of us who work during the day. Tasha completed her master's in science in Family Nurse Practitioner at Simmons College-Boston, MA and her Postgraduate Degree in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at Jacksonville University in May 2021. While pediatrics is her passion, she sees adults too, having had inpatient and outpatient experience in pediatrics and geriatrics. Hi I'm Dr. Barreto, clinical psychologist and owner of MAPS Integrated Wellness. Wanted to let this community know I will be performing neuropsychological evaluations starting in August. They will include evaluation of behavioral and childhood developmental disorders like Autism, ADHD, and learning disabilities, TBI, neurocognitive disorders in older adulthood (such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's), pre-surgical evaluations, court mandated (custody, alcohol and drug, injury litigation) evaluations, and general diagnostic evaluations. We are putting names on a list to start scheduling for August/early September. I can only dedicate a few spots a week for testing but will look into expanding the service with another provider if demand is too high. We take most insurances including MEDICARE.
