There’s something that happens to me every time I step outside — especially on days when Joe insists I take a break from work and “go breathe real air.” (He’s not wrong… and yes, I’m lucky. He keeps me human.)

The second I feel the sun on my skin or hear the wind moving through the trees, my entire nervous system shifts. I can feel my shoulders drop. My breath deepens without me trying. My mind — which can run faster than Grace sprinting for a tennis ball — suddenly has nothing left to defend, fix, or force.

And in that tiny pause, I remember something I teach every athlete, every business leader, every everyday human who’s ever sat across from me:

Your power isn’t in the thinking.
Your power is in the presence.

This is the secret I’ve seen change PGA pros, Olympians, world champions, and exhausted mamas who just need one moment of peace…

Waking up the day after Thanksgiving with such a full heart (after a very full belly) 💛

This was only the second time I’ve ever hosted Thanksgiving… and doing it in the large and open home we bought last year… specifically because we wanted space for family visits and gatherings.
It felt really special.
19 people, 6 dogs, food everywhere, chatter bouncing off the walls…
it was exactly what I hoped this home would hold.

We cooked together, we ate together, we hung out, we enjoyed each other… real life and connection. And I’m honestly so grateful for this blessed, abundant life I get to live. Moments like yesterday remind me how precious it all is. 😍

Thank you to everyone who’s part of our world. I don’t take any of you for granted. 🧡 I hope you also experience and see the blessings and abundance in your life.

This morning, as I was sipping coffee with Grace snoring dramatically at my feet (truly… the least graceful “Grace” you’ve ever met), I felt that familiar nudge inside me:

Slow down.
Take a breath.
Remember what you’re grateful for.

Thanksgiving week always does this to me — but truthfully, it’s already my everyday practice. Gratitude keeps my mind from running wild… and wow, can a conscious mind run wild if we don’t lovingly guide it.

If you’ve ever noticed your thoughts spinning into regret about the past… or worry about the future… or over-analyzing the moment you’re currently in… you’re not imagining it.
That’s the conscious mind when fear and ego are steering the ship.

I’ve seen this with PGA pros, Olympians, leaders, parents, teenagers — and in my own life.
When your conscious mind goes unmanaged, it creates tension in the body, stress in the nervous system, and that feeling of “Why does everything feel so hard right now?”

But here’s the moment everything shifts:

What if you decide — today — to stop letting your mind misuse itself?

What if you interrupt the regret, the worry, the overthinking, the pushing…
and gently redirect it into something powerful?

Gratitude.

Not the vague, “I’m grateful for my family” kind of gratitude…
but the specific, I’m grateful for Layla’s soft little sigh she makes when she curls up next to me,
or I’m grateful for the way the light hit the counter while I made lunch.
Those tiny moments shift your chemistry.

Try this with me all week:
Every night before bed, think of five unique things you’re grateful for.
Not the same five.
Five new ones.

The magic is in the uniqueness — because your mind will start looking for them all day long.
You literally train yourself to see good, notice calm, and feel joy.

That’s how you go from “living in hell” to “living heaven on earth.”

Gratitude is powerful.
Gratitude is life-changing.
Gratitude is absolutely worth the effort.

The other day Joe walked past me in the kitchen and said,
“You’re smiling at the coffee maker again.”

And I realized…
I absolutely was.
Full teeth. Full joy. Full ridiculousness.
(Grace was judging me from the doorway. Pupeye was plotting to steal something. Layla was probably meditating.)

But here’s the thing —
Smiling is one of my cheats.
A nervous system hack.
A “let’s take this day from fine to actually-feels-good” kind of move.

We think mindset shifts have to be complicated.
Hours of journaling.
A whole emotional excavation.
A mountaintop in Bali.

But sometimes?
It’s this tiny, silly, conscious decision:
I’m going to soften my jaw, breathe deeper, and let a smile break the pattern.

Because your subconscious listens.
It notices when you choose ease over tension.
It notices when you decide “I’m safe,” “I’m here,” “I’m okay.”
And it responds.

I’ve taught this to Olympians, business leaders, exhausted moms, and people who swear they “don’t do mindfulness.”
But you do.
You just forget that it can be simple.

So today…
When you catch yourself spiraling or overthinking or doing the 12-tab mental juggling act —
Try smiling at something totally ordinary.
Your coffee.
Your steering wheel.
Your dog doing absolutely nothing helpful.
Yourself in the mirror (yes, that one’s spicy).

It shifts more than you think.
Presence. Breath. Calm. Power.
They all sneak back in.

This morning, before hopping on my bike, I caught myself rushing.

Not outwardly — I wasn’t late, nothing was urgent.
But inside?
My mind was doing that thing it used to do all the time…
…jumping ahead to work projects, replaying yesterday’s conversations, mentally drafting an email I haven’t even opened my laptop for yet.

And I laughed. Because I teach presence. I live it. I’ve spent 30+ years helping PGA pros, Olympians, world champions, and everyday humans access the Zone — and here I was, clipping in with a brain that was doing laps before my legs ever started.

So I paused.
Right there in the driveway, with Joe waving goodbye from the garage and Grace barking at absolutely nothing (her specialty).

I closed my eyes.
Felt my breath.
Let the swirl quiet.

And just like that — my body softened.
My mind opened.
The ride stopped being a “task” and became a moment I actually got to live.

This is the real work.
Not perfection.
Not “never getting distracted again.”
But noticing when your mind leaves the moment…
And choosing to come back.
Again and again and again.

Because when you train your subconscious to favor presence over pressure —
that’s where freedom enters.
That’s where clarity shows up.
That’s where performance becomes effortless.
That’s where you actually feel alive in your own life.

And if you saw me on the bike path today — smiling like a kid on summer break — that’s why.
I wasn’t thinking about the ride.
I was in it.
Living what I teach, one breath at a time.

You can have this, too.
The calm.
The focus.
The joy of actually being here for your life.

After earning a Bachelors in Psychology from Westfield State College my journey led me to Amelia Island, Florida. In the first few years of my profession, I recognized a strong desire to help people make more profound changes. Enabling me to be a Board Certified Hypnotist, recognized by the National Board of Hypnosis Education and Certification and accredited by the National Guild of Hypnotists as a Certified Hypnotherapist. I have also received advanced training as a Certified Forensic Hypnotist.
