This was not a present I wanted for my birthday, but as I drove down the road yesterday, I found a man putting up these signs.
is pushing to rezone 3053 acres from agricultural to a combination of Rural transitional (1 dwelling unit per acre), Suburban (2-5 dwelling units per acre), Urban Transitional (5-10 dwelling units per acre), Urban Edge/Urban General (8-15 dwelling units per acre), Urban Corridor (0-18 dwelling units per acre), Urban Center (10-25 dwelling units per acre) and an Industrial employment zone. So far we haven’t found a map to show exactly where they want each zone, but this rezoning affects everything around our farm.
For so many, our farm is a place to disconnect from the racing world around us. It’s peaceful, it’s quiet, it’s safe. We don’t really want this to change because we are surrounded by a neighborhood. We are also incredibly concerned they will flood us out by building up around us. We’ve seen it happen throughout the county. If this matters to you, and we are praying it does, please consider attending the meeting on October 7 and voicing your concerns. If you can’t be there in person, please consider calling and writing to your Nassau County representatives and let them know this is not what you want either.
