HOW IS HAWAIIAN LOMI LIKE PEELING AN ONION
Lomi is a sacred form of massage. Lomi was passed down from generation to generation, and from village to village. Lomi is a beautiful form of massage. Lomi is a powerful form of bodywork. How in the world does this compare to an onion?
Onions have layers. Lomi has layers. The more you peel an onion, the more its true essence comes out. Lomi has the same effect on the body. It allows you the freedom to have your true self come out and healing takes place.
The standard form of Swedish Massage works the skin and the muscles to free you from pain and stress. Most Swedish massages work in a standard rotation around your body. As bodyworkers you can guess what will be worked on next, when it is time to turn over and when it will conclude. Your mind usually keeps track of this as you are being worked on. As you focus on what is being done to you, you can’t allow your mind the freedom it may need too help any healing to take place. It's healing to allow the layers, sometime a life time of layers, to be released. This process can be the start of new growth and awareness.

LOMI MASSAGE & A STOVE TOP
LOMI LOMI IS AN ACIENT HAWAIIAN MODALITY. IT IS SERIOUS AND HEALING WORK. LOMI NOT ONLY HELPS THE CLIENT HEAL, IT CAN ALSO HELP THE PRACTITIONER HEAL AS WELL.
I WAS CLEANING MY STOVE TOP AND COULD ACTUALLY RELATE WHAT I WAS DOING TO HAWAIANN LOMI MASSAGE. SOUNDS STRANGE BUT IT IS A WONDERFUL EXAMPLE OF THIS WORK. ONE OF THE WAYS WE LIKE TO THINK OF LOMI IS:
LOMI IS FREEDOM WITHIN A FRAMEWORK OF STRUCTURE
IF YOU THINK ABOUT MOST SWEDISH MASSAGE, IT IS LIKE A MANDELA. WE WORK BETWEEN THE LINES. WE WORK A BACK, THEN THE LEGS, THEN THE NECK OR ARMS. YOUR CLIENT KNOWS, FOR THE MOST PART, WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO WORK ON NEXT AND WHEN IT IS TIME TO TURN OVER. I KNOW THIS IS A GENERALIZATION.
FOR MANY IT IS THE WAY WE WORK. IT IS PERFECTLY FINE TO WORK LIKE THIS. I DID IT FOR OVER 10 YEARS, BUT AFTER THAT LONG I FELT I LOST WHAT I THOUGHT MASSAGE SHOULD BE. THAT WAS WHEN I DISCOVERED LOMI.
WITH LOMI WE WORK THE ENTIRE BODY. WE HAVE THE FREEDOM TO WORK A BACK, THEN AN ARM, OR MAYBE A LEG THEN GO BACK TO THE BACK OR LEGS. WE TRUST OUR HANDS AND INTUITION TO MOVE FROM ONE AREA TO ANOTHER TO HELP OUR CLIENT. I LIKE TO SAY LOMI IS FINGER PAINTING THE BODY.

WHAT IS HAWAIIAN LOMI MASSAGE

What is HAWAIIAN LOMI MASSAGE ? If you think of massage as a powerful form of healing, then Lomi must be considered one of the most profound forms of massage.

Where Lomi differs from traditional Swedish massage is simple. Lomi works the whole body and not just the individual parts. Lomi looks at the body not just as a group of muscles, but rather as a complete soul, allowing healing to take place at various levels.

With Swedish massage the therapist works in a very traditional and sequential way. Working the back, legs, and arms one area at a time. Lomi works in a very non–sequential way. Lomi is long flowing strokes that work the body as a whole. It is a beautiful dance that allows you to be totally present for your clients and for them to relax and accept a special experience.

The therapist does not know where they are going next. You trust your intuition. You trust your hands, and you will work “in this moment” being totally present for your client

This kind of spontaneous flow is designed to clear the client’s mind and allows them to relax and receive the work. As important as the physical act of massage is during the session, the presence that you offer and the care you are showing them will turn a basic massage into a new experience.

You are offering a special experience; your client is receiving special experience.

Hawaiians think of the body as being a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual whole. When healing takes place on one level, then healing will take place on all levels.
