“But they’re NOT the same!”

So, why not?

Back in the 60s, there was NO proof that Black women were a danger to white women in restrooms—just as there is no evidence today that trans women are a threat to cis women in bathrooms.

Still, politicians then peddled hateful lies, claiming that Black women would somehow contaminate white women simply by sharing a space.

The false narrative of “protecting women’s safety” has always been wielded as a weapon to other, to vilify, and to strip dignity from those who are not part of the dominating society.

Today, as then, it's about control, not safety.

It’s all part of the dehumanization process.

And so many are falling for it.

National Day of Mourning - established in 1970 by the United American Indians of New England to fast and mourn Indigenous ancestors, genocide, and land theft and to feel strength in action and solidarity. CALLS OF ACTION: 1) learn whose homelands you are on and support local Indigenous communities, 2) read more, learn more, and share more with a friend the legacy of Thanksgiving, 3) reflect on your relationship to settler colonialism and to Indigenous Peoples, 4) support Native/Two Spirit artists, organizations, businesses, 5) celebrate Indigenous survival and resistance to colonialism, 6) you can learn about and support the Land Back movement by NDN Collective, 7) support water protections, sign petitions, donate, volunteer, spread awareness.

SMALL IS ALL. Small action leads to collective change. Supporting Indigenous liberation supports collective liberation and sustainability. We are all interconnected!

From our Detroit Peer Respite friends:

"The single most impactful thing our supporters can do to help us open our doors is to encourage your networks to join as a peer support worker. As a reminder, PSWs require no experience (clinical or otherwise) and can opt into receiving $30/hour in compensation. See the attached flyer for more information, and please share widely!

As we enter the holiday season, we're asking you to put us on your wishlist. The gift of community-based, non-carceral care makes a great present for Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa, winter solstice, or whatever else you and your loved ones might be celebrating. We rely almost entirely on direct donations."

REPOST from Relentless Indigenous Woman
Today is Trans Day of Remembrance 🩵🩷🤍🏳️‍⚧️
As we honour our relatives whose lives have been lost or taken from transphobia, may we also remember Trans folks have ALWAYS existed in North America.
It is not a new concept.
There are over 168 Indigenous terms in America that describe someone that’s neither man nor woman. And over 2/3 of Indigenous languages in North America to describe someone that’s non-binary or Trans.
Most Indigenous languages have gender neutral pronouns because the gender binary doesn’t matter that fcking much.
The binary is a colonial tool of control.
Indigenous Ways of Knowing are circular, expansive, fluid. Binaries cannot exist within it.
Honouring and loving Trans folks is to honour and love humanity.

Some Democrats and media are blaming election day losses on anti-trans attacks. The facts disagree with them. The argument that trans people are to blame for Democratic losses is morally and politically mistaken, but also downright harmful to the constituents they do serve or wish to serve.

When you think you are your own separate, independent, self-made tree and not the forest, you care less when other trees are burning. This is a fatal problem of mistaken identity, colonized forgetting, and conditioned belief in your insulation from harm. You are always the forest. Indigenous ways.

Here is a copy of our statement of support for the University of Michigan’s encampment that we made on 9/20/24 at the rally and press conference urging Dana Nessel drop the charges against members of the encampment

Image description: Gradiant green to pink background with upper and lower framing of slices of watermelon. Black text that states
“For the last few years we have partnered with the University of Michigan to conduct research regarding the heath and safety of the transgender and gender diverse community. As a consequence, we have a duty to stand against oppression directed against our community and our allies. Unequivocally, the q***r community stands in solidarity with the nonviolent protesters facing prosecution and violence at the hands of the police and Attorney General Dana Nessel. Standing against injustice is not new to us; the LGBTQIA+ liberation movement found it’s footing in the summer of 1969 with the Stonewall Uprising. Just as we proudly fought against institutional oppression and unfair prosecution directed toward us, so do the protesters against the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Their demands aren’t extreme - that the University of Michigan divest from arms manufacturers and other companies that profit from the loss of hundreds of thousands of lives through terroristic attacks on a population of refugees, destruction of their healthcare system, and deprivation of resources. Yet, the University of Michigan has violently silenced those calls through a violation of their right to protest injustice and callous disregard for the safety of this community. We demand that Dana Nessel stop these political prosecutions. If she wants to prosecute someone for violence, disorderly conduct, and intimidation, the efforts are better served by investigating the unlawful use of force by the police that has hospitalized nonviolent protesters. There is no pride in targeting q***r, nonbinary, and people of color who stand against human suffering. There is no pride in genocide.
Free Palestine. We also call on other q***r organizations and organizers to speak out and stand in solidarity! “

Your Support Team

We have been providing support and hormone/gender-affirming surgery education since 2013, with our founder, Darnell Jones RPH. We’ve grown to offer a full suite of resources and services by out trans/gender non-conforming led team, which has expanded to include pharmacists, physician, therapist, client advocates and peer counselors. Transcend is the support team to help guide you to where you want to go.

After the loss of our founder, we re-built our programs and services and in 2017, assisted over 130+ tgnc folks (youth to elderly), and their families in the Metro Detroit/surrounding area. We offer transition counseling, and offer referrals to allied doctors. We offer pathways with physicians that do not mandate therapists as a means to get access to desired medical treatments (this is called informed consent). We provide mental health referrals with allied therapists to support you and your goals (not gate-keep).

Transcend has also conducted research, driven by our community, with support from our data analysis partners with the University of Michigan. We learned a lot about how inter-connected our health needs are, and how heavily weighted support is in this equation. This is why we approach our clients through a whole-systems, holistic lens, and connect with resources beyond healthcare to social connections.

All of our services are, and always will be, free for the community.
