Healthy boundaries play a critical role in a child’s growth and development. Talking with children about boundaries and important topics can help create a safe, supportive environment for them to thrive.

Body safety and autonomy can be taught from a young age. Giving children choices about their own bodies helps build confidence and respect. That includes never forcing hugs or kisses—there are many other ways kids can greet friends and loved ones.

Parents and caregivers can’t see everything all the time. Stay aware of what’s happening around you, and if something doesn’t feel right, speak up. It’s always better to say something.
