📝 Creating Your Birth Plan? Here’s What to Include! 🐻✨
At Mama Bear Doula Care, we believe every woman deserves to feel informed, empowered, and supported. A birth plan helps communicate your preferences with your care team—and while flexibility is key, knowing your options makes all the difference.
Here are some important things to consider:
💆♀️ Pain Management Techniques
Whether you’re planning an unmedicated birth or open to medical pain relief, include your preferences like:
– Breathing techniques
– Hydrotherapy or shower
– Massage or counter pressure
– TENS unit
– Epidural or IV medications
⚕️ Medical Interventions & Procedures
Think through how you feel about:
– Induction or augmentation
– Continuous vs. intermittent monitoring
– Episiotomy vs. natural tearing
– Assisted delivery (vacuum/forceps)
– Cesarean birth preferences
🫶 Support System
Who do you want present? Partner, doula (hi! 👋), friend, family?
Also consider:
– Photos/video
– Quiet environment or music
– Dim lights or aromatherapy
👶 Post-Birth Wishes
Let your team know your preferences for:
– Immediate skin-to-skin
– Delayed cord clamping
– Breastfeeding or formula
– Newborn care (eye ointment, vitamin K, bathing, etc.)
💖 Aftercare for You
Recovery matters. Consider including:
– Postpartum pain relief
– Help with the first latch
– Privacy during recovery
– Emotional check-ins
– Who you’d like to visit (and when)
🌼 Personal Requests
This is your unique experience. Add anything meaningful to you, such as:
– Cultural or religious preferences
– Music playlists
– Affirmations or calming visuals
📣 Your birth plan is a tool for communication, not a set-in-stone script. It helps your care team support you—mind, body, and heart.
