We love seeing our patients show off their hard work! Shoutout to Katie for completing the Colfax 10 Miler! And shoutout to one of our PTs, Katy Lee, who got to run the last mile with Katie as she cheered her on."

On behalf of everyone here at Integral PT,

🌲🎁🌲 Happy Holidays! 🌲🎁🌲

Wishing you all the happiest season.

The holidays are almost here!

If your PT/PTA has educated you to avoid positions that "tension" the sciatic nerve because of sciatic nerve pain, then sitting on the floor to wrap presents is not a great position for you.

Instead, try wrapping presents on a table or counter in order to avoid your legs straight out and the rounded curve of your back.

🌲 Happy Holidays from the IPT Team! 🌲

πŸ’ͺπŸ‘πŸ¦΅ It's Functional Friday! πŸ’ͺπŸ‘πŸ¦΅

Do you experience neck pain when sleeping on your side? Have you checked your pillow lately? If you want to know if your pillow is right for you, take some pictures like we did and look at your spine, or have your PT/PTA help you with suggestions.

You can see that the pillow in the first picture does not have enough height or support to it, resulting in her head dropping too low. This may cause her put her hands under the pillow to try and support herself more.
You can see in the second picture that she has a more supportive pillow that keeps her cervical spine straight.

Bonus tip: look at her hips and low back. You can see that adding a pillow between the legs results in better support for the lumbar spine and hip.

πŸŽ‰ πŸ’ͺ It's IPT Team Tuesday! πŸŽ‰ πŸ’ͺ

Today, we'd like to introduce Dr. Ian Nay, PT DPT.

Dr. Ian Nay received his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Regis University in 2021 and his Bachelor's of Science in Kinesiology from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 2015. His professional interests include orthopedic and manual therapy, sport-specific rehab and return to play for athletes, strength training, neurological rehab for stroke and other conditions, and providing a high level of compassionate care to all his patients. He has taken advanced course work in manual mobilizations and sports physical therapy, as well as being a certified blood-flow restriction therapist through Owens Recovery Science. He is planning on attaining his Orthopedic Certified Specialist credentials through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties and hopeful to become a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Therapists in the future.

He grew up in the desert of Palm Springs, CA playing competitive soccer, basketball, and golf. It was an injury from soccer that introduced him to physical therapy and allowed him to avoid a surgery. He started working as a technician in physical therapy clinics while he was in high school and became enthralled with the profession. After undergraduate, Ian worked for three years as a clinic manager and lead technician in an outpatient orthopedic physical therapy clinic. He moved to Colorado in 2018 to attend Regis University.

Outside of physical therapy, Ian enjoys spending time with his lovely wife, Laurel, and their pets. Some of his favorite activities include hiking, cooking, golfing, and reading. He also enjoys challenging himself with weight training in the gym, high-intensity interval training, and road biking.

πŸ’ͺπŸ‘πŸ¦΅ It's Functional Friday! πŸ’ͺπŸ‘πŸ¦΅

If you are cleaning above your head, your neck or low back might get sore from leaning back for long periods of time, or your shoulder from reaching so far.

Instead of reaching, get a stool to stand on that brings you closer to level with the area you are trying to clean. This will give you a better overall posture.

Also remember to switch hands to give one shoulder a break!

I don't know about you, but I love food!
Sometimes even I sink down into that delicious plate of food...yum.

But that isn't great posture, especially if you have any neck or back pain!

For a better sitting posture at the dinner table, remember to pull those shoulder blades together and stack your spine. Be careful not to overcorrect and arch your low back or rotate your pelvis forward. If you feel too far away from your soup bowl, you can always lift the bowl to you instead of hunching over.

Enjoy! πŸ˜„
